Does ANY extended warranty cover soft tops? I don't think so.

[QUOTE=soeharyo;1051189]Have any of you guys run out of factory warranty....QUOTE]
Here! My warranty ran out in February. As others have suggested, rather than going with an extended warranty I dumped two grand into a money market fund with check-writing capability. If something serious happens, it will at least cushion the blow. I'm not that nervous - the hardware in the Z4 is the same as my 325i and is pretty much tried-and-true. I've had no issues with either of my BMWs. The 3-series goes out of warranty in November and I'll dump another couple of grand in then. For all our supposed nervousness, the truth is that if everyone on this forum created a mod-matching fund, where they put the same amount of money into their disaster fund as they paid for their mods, about 90% of us could afford an engine and tranny rebuild at dealership rates. |

I paid about 2,000 for mine and it covers I think 4 years/80,000. This includes everything from what they mentioned..even wear and tear on certain parts. It sounds too good to be true in a way but we'll see when something happens. From what I've read about the Z4 with certain defects that'll cause an arm and leg to fix, I'd rather have that peace of mind that my Z4's covered for the repairs if anything happens to it.
I could put that 2G in a money market account, but say if my soft top motor dies. Then I have to shell out the 2G and now I would say, "Dag nabbit, I shoulda take that 2G and buy the warranty. Now I have to put another 2G in the account." It took me awhile to decide if I should put the 2G aside or get the warranty. My car's an early '03 model so I'd rather not risk it and bought the warranty instead. If it's an '05, then I'd probably put the 2G in the money market. Just my 2 cents worth. |

A warranty would prevent the project of a SuperCharger....
I am very indecisive.... Should I keep the M and supercharge it or just give it back and get an M3.... |

It's not always about you, y'know, enfield. Why don't you start a new thread so I can tell you to forget about the M3?

My pleasure... the big thing I think is how these various "warranties" base coverage on "wear and tear" vs. something that breaks.
One of the things that kept me from buying a 350Z was the high rate of soft top failures on newer roadsters, (splitting seams, holes, etc.) coupled with the fact that after 3 years even the Nissan extended warranty will not cover the soft top. I don't think BMW EW covers soft tops either but to me it seems to be a better material. Who knows...

I was looking at an after market warranty pretty seriously back when I had a biturbo Audi S4 that was about 5K miles from the end of it's factory one given the incredible failure rate of the turbos in those things (I blew up one set and the replacements were starting to fail) and almost went for Warranty Gold. A bunch of other folks with those S4s had already done so and I started hearing about unpaid claims just as I was getting ready to pull the trigger.
I ordered a new S4 with a normally aspirated engine instead

I'm with WarrantyDirect and I've read all the fine prints on what is covered and what is not. They didn't mentioned anything about convertible tops not being covered.
The regular "bumper to bumper" warranty does not cover emission components (yeah...it's not truely bumper to bumper). They wanted 200 extra to cover for it. Beware the BMW extended warranties though. Those are not truely bumper to bumper but only covers engines and transmissions which probably will never break. |
