That's annoying.
I'd actually prefer more significant damage if that happened to me; at least it would make the decision easier. If I had that damage I'd be conflicted between living with it or changing it!! |

Sorry to hear that. I would have to get that fixed right away. I wouldn't go to the dealer unless ins covered it and I know you are unsure whether to make a claim or not right now. Try fixing it yourself first and then take a second look at it.

Thanks for the comments and sympathy guys and gals (at least most of you!). I was able to reduce it back into the right position, but it's still not being held in place right. Based on the DIY on this forum, the only way to take the screws out would be to push the rods into the bumper which means you have to remove the whole bumper.
I spoke to the insurance company, and they said that if I make a report to the police within 24h of the accident, then I can claim insurance....with a $500 deductible. I doubt this will cost that much to fix. I thought about whether it would be possible to replace it with a brand new aero bumper and thus pay a $500 deductible to get a brand new bumper....but I'm not sure if this is possible. She claimed that my premiums should not go up if my claim was done in conjunction with the police report. Just some info in case people are interested. Well, I'm taking it into the collision place tomorrow morning. It doesn't look like it would be that hard to fix. The sad part, Caddyshk, is that I was parked in front of a banquet hall for a research day for resident physicians and staff doctors. So chances are, it was a physician who did it. All internal medicine and subspecialty people....no coordination or integrity, I tell you. If it were surgeons, this never would've happened! Just venting. Thanks again. |

Well, I went around shopping for estimates today. I decided to try two reputable collision shops in the city, and I couldn't believe the difference in price. I need to have the plastic bracket that attaches the bumper to the fender replaced. I need to have the headlight realigned, and I need to have the bumper refinished to get rid of that bump that formed from it getting bent. They tell me that the little crack in the paint should come out when they heat and refinish the bumper. Anyways the damage:
Centre #1: $566.58 Centre #2: $282.27 What a difference, eh? I know that centre #2 does good work too 'cause my wife got t-boned by a guy running a red light a few years back and they did a great job on her car. After those estimates, I didn't even bother going to the stealer to see what they were gonna try charging. Zed goes out Tuesday for repair. |

outstanding! Just out of curiosity, do you know where the stealer hubs their work out to?
Post pictures of course when it's finished, glad there wasn't a whole lot of damage done, whew! |

The stealer in my area is owned by a family that owns two stealerships. They were smart enough to also own or at least partly own a collision centre too. So they send their work out to their own collision centre. I heard they do amazing work but will charge you an arm and a leg for it (i.e. good for insurance claimed damages).
I was impressed with the guy at centre #2 'cause I asked him if they also repair wheel curb rash. He told me that they send them out for repair and it costs $160 per wheel. He also said that I could probably save some money by going to those people directly and he gave me their name & telephone number! Good guy. Well, I gotta see if they do quality work still, so my judgment hasn't been passed yet. |
