kidney grill removal

anyone know how to remove the kidney grills. there not conncected to the hood on the Z making it very difficult. i tired to just pull em put but im scared im gonna break em

It’s been so long but can someone remind me... you pull the grills up, and the bottom end swings out first? That would make most sense but these tabs within the bumper are so brittle, don’t want to chance it.

I've released the top of the bumper and reached in, fiddled, released the tabs, popped them out. But it was long long ago. I don't recall the "his" just carefull and gentle.

I did have one out a couple years back when an acorn woodpecker crashed into the grill. The bird was a goner but the tabs were intact as was the grill, both were inside the bumper next to the radiator. Perfect hit I guess!

Note: I don't recommend woodpeckers as a removal tool though!

I've just grabbed each grille with the fingers from both hands and pulled up and out. Easy-peasy.
