That's weird. I wonder if your windshield is set up too high or something.
When I did it, I just hooked it into the groove and it pretty much fell in flush without much pushing.

the middle part of mine isn't sitting flush, I'll try some silicone and painter's tape to hold it

I have read this several times and see most of these write ups are on convertibles. Is this the same procedure for the COUPES as the Verts????

Maybe my windshield wasn't mounted properly because I'm having such a hard time getting the top part to click in.

I did this on my newly purchased 06 Z4M last week. Took me less than 10 minutes total. I didn't need any glue, as the trim popped in perfectly. I found out it's important to make sure each side is an equal length running down the sides of the windshield, as it will "pull" the other side out of whack if not. Start at the upper corners of the windshield first, fitting in the trim with the corners and make sure the trim is snug in the corners. Then, do the sides and finally the middle. I had zero issues and it's been popped in place now for over a week. Very, very easy to do.

I just tried this today and had one hell of a time getting the trim to click into place. I think there's too much butyl behind the dang glass and that's getting in the way. Anyone cut the stuff?

Attempting on my Z4mC

Gents,

following this thread, it seems easy enough for me to just go out to the parking lot and start yanking out the old one...

Was it very difficult for you guys to remove the old piece?

Mine is falling into pieces (top part) but the buttom / side edges seems to be really stuck IN between the windshield gap...

Should i keep pulling? Use a tool? Suggestions?

Probably end up taking it to a shop...

Shop suggested they might need to remove windshield?

Sounds excessive. Anybody?

No, you just pull the old one out and pop the new one in. There's absolutely no reason to remove the windshield, that shop couldn't be more incorrect.

I did mine alittle over a month ago and found the sides were sticking in the windshield sealant. There is no need to remove the windshield. Just keep pulling and if you need use a plastic scraper that will fit under the end of the rubber to help pry it out of the groove.

Absolutely. I ordered off ebay - 30 bucks shipped. Don't need to replace, but it's the original strip and with cold weather boredom, I figured what the heck.

I did it when I did the weather stripping, because it was all cracked, too.
Getting the wiper arms off is a PITA. I had to use a small gear puller, and rip out the rubber grommets around the arms to make room for the claws on the puller.
New tray comes with new grommets.
Remember to put some painter's tape on the windshield and mark the position of the wipers before you pull them.
They're not keyed, so can go on in any orientation.

Having just been through the process of removing/installing my cowl cover a few times over the course of the last couple weeks... It's not too bad, but don't even bother to try removing the wipers without investing in a puller like this as they WILL seize to the shafts if not removed fairly recently or coated with anti-seize. With the wiper arms off, you have to get the shit plastic screws out from the front (one will need the DME cover removed), and lastly just grab a corner and start pulling.

Order this kit from ECS and it has it all.

Installed a new windshield rubber trim on my Z4MC yesterday. My old trim actually wasn't in bad shape. But I figured after 7 years & 86k miles, for $25, why not.

What a pain in the ass. I was thinking this would be a quick 10~20 min job. It ended up taking a whole frustrating hour. I found out that my windshield was actually installed slightly crooked from the factory so the passenger side upper corner has extremely tight clearance. Dish soap and an old useless credit card did help quite a bit.

I thought there must be some variation in how the windshields are installed.
My trim dropped right into place, but others have reported a lot of trouble across the top.

I need to do this bad. My rubber is falling into pieces. At the same time I need to replace the viynl on my roof. Where did you guys order the part from? Same part number for coupe? Was thinking the viynl guys should be able to do this for me because with my luck it would turn into a nightmare project.
