Open passenger door all the way. Follow the a pilar down to the side of the dash. There's a switch you use the car key to turn on/off.

Remember to turn it back on for adults and vice versa!

You're right, you don't. You just have a circular detent where the switch would be.

Are you in Eutope? I think all North American spec cars can turn off the passenger airbag with this switch But I don't know about cars built for other countries.

I believe in North America the Passenger airbag should turn off on its own. There should be a occupant weight sensor in the seat that tells the bag to disable if the occupant doesn't meet a minimum weight. There's should also be an indicator light somewhere in the IP or console that indicates the bag is off. No sure exactly where it is at on the Z4's. In Europe they use the key switch on the side of the IP.

The indicator light is on the opposite side of the much maligned sport button ahead of the shifter.

The airbag switch ensures the airbag won't inflate when the passenger is someone who could be injured by it - such as a very small child in a car seat.

Hey Vanne!

My car is a US-spec car and it does have the switch to turn off the airbag, and the indicator light on the center console just to the right of the shifter. I presume Canadian cars are identical in that respect.

Been away, sorry. As others noted you have the place where the switch would be. I believe at least the ///M model has both the mat and the switch in the US. I have to manually turn of the air bag when I have this guy with me (he weighs 50 lbs) vs. the Jack Russell (17 lbs) yet I don't want the airbag on with him in the car.

But the sensor mat ought to do the trick if it's there. You can use the light and some test weight to check. See whether a test weight of under 40 lbs (or whatever you expect baby plus car seat to weigh) triggers the airbag system on or off and check via the airbag light.

Another idea: check the owner's manual. If you no longer have it, you should be able to download it for a specific region/country from the BMW site. That should provide you with the "official" solution. It's available at the BMW USA site - I'd expect you could find the main Z4 as well as M supplement online for the Netherlands (otherwise perhaps a call to the regional office, not dealer might help).

Before anyone worries about my dog riding with me in the car, he's secured via his harness and belt system when he's out with me.

He's actually quite a good driving safety system --he can spot a dangerous driver around us even before that person makes a stupid move. As a herding dog it's his job to spot a cow or sheep that's going to be a problem and do something crazy or otherwise needs to be reigned back in. He can spot minute movement and actions that indicate a dangerous car/driver. Last guy he stared and growled at cut into my lane 5 seconds later, then raced ahead. My dog kept an eye on him until he was out of sight. When I caught up with the driver my dog alerted to about five minutes later that guy had put another car and himself into the center guard rail.

There are probably more Euro drivers on Z4-Forum that might be able to shed more light on the switch situation. Since other Euro models have the switch, I wonder if it is a mistake -- the factory forgot to install the switch? If you press on the center of the small circular indention on the side of the dash, does it give? Does it feel like there is a hole under there with only a thin covering of the dash material? I don't know how they install that switch when the cars were being assembled, but wondered if all are like that at one point during assembly, and an installer punches out the thin dash material over that area and installs a switch. Pure speculation. Probably wrong. ;-)

The big question is if there's wires for it because i can buy that switch and then install it myself
There is also a light on the right of the shifter
I don't have that light
I think it was a option the switch and the warning light
