I've done it with DIS and it freaks me out.
After what you said, not sure I want to try it with Rheingold...

I pretty sure that only happened because of my ancient gateway laptop I use for car work. Just don't take any screenshots and it will be fine. I'm curious if I can send and receive information from other modules. I was able to call up the DME and look at individual points (coolant temp, battery voltages, etc). Just curious as to why it would say my vanos was not moving during the test.

Anyone using Rheingold ISTA-P (programming software)

Curious how it compares to NCS Expert.

Also, anyone heard of Rheingold USA?
Came across them looking for Rheingold info.
They try to give the look and feel of an official reseller, but looks a little fishy to me .

Rheingold is the official BMW software now...

I have Rheingold-P but I have not used it.

I have a feeling that for real fine grain control of changing the software, you still need NCS Expert.

What sort of cables are needed to make this work? Im curious if the obd2-usb I have for my Superduke would work or not. I'd love it if all I had to do was download the software and get the round plug adapter to work woth both the e30 s52 and the Z4

I found another source that has used -P and he agrees.
NCS Exp. is still the way to go for programming.

Quote:

ISTA/P is slow and awkward to use, the best thing to do is learn how to use NCS expert, that will do far more of the fancy coding that ISTA won't do, and it skips a lot of the programming.

I'd avoid trying to reprogram anything unless you have a specific reason to, and even then, use winKFP to do it.
ISTA/P will automatically draw out a measures plan which means updating every module on the car at the same time, it might take a long time and start asking for the optical MOST connection.

All the fun coding stuff tends to be done through NCS expert and it is far more flexible.

interesting to see this come up as my bccables software has just froze up.... doesnt communicate with the car just transmission errors...

Yet a week before i used it to code in my DTC, its just stopped working ?? using windows Vista on an old sony machine.

i can get it to run any tests let alone freeze during the middle of one :-( I'm trying to learn the software but i simply cant as it seems quite unreliable for me...

this is what I'm using...

Try changing until you get one that works, then mark it so as to "remember"
