Apex EC-7 wheel cleaner

Asked the guys at Meguiars what kind of wheel cleaner to use on my new Apex EC-7 wheels. They said the only product (of theirs) they would recommend is this one: http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4615. Sharing this for anyone who wants to use a product that makes the job a little easier. These buggers are beautiful wheels, but tough to clean. They also recommended this agitator brush: http://www.detailing.com/store/ez-de...eel-brush.html.

I highly recommend Sonax. I've used a few products and it seemed to get the best results. That brush looks decent, but if its too wide to get in between spokes I've found that this brush works quite well to get in between the stock wheel spokes: (same brand, smaller diameter)

OP. stop using that ASAP.

That cleaner is acidic, and will wear away at the finish of your wheels.

Get Sonax, IronX or something similar that is neutral in PH.

I personally use Meguiars D104 APC+ and love it

no, it will clean the wheels, but it contains acid that will destroy the clearcoat on the wheels over repeated use. its good for the average joe with a 550i msport that washes his wheels twice a year though, and only acid will remove the yellowing film left on the rims after it has been neglected over a long period of time

Thanks guys. What about that citrus-y product that seems to work well in a variety of tough cleaning situations. I think it's called "green monster" or something. Too tired to go in the garage to look. I used it to remove some grease spots on the headliner in my Jeep, and found it works well on a variety of surfaces.

For the most part.

When it comes to actual detail products (the professional series), they are awesome.

I used the Sonax product after my first ever track day (wheels were nasty) and it was amazing how well it removed 90% of the gunk, without using a muscle. Still had to use a brush and then a small sponge to get in the nooks and crannies, but it did much of the hard work for me.

New question...after the wheel is dry I spray it with Meguiar's brake dust repellant product. It does the job ok, but I notice later after driving that it seems to "bake on" small traces of dirt in the nooks and crannies of the wheel. This isn't dirt that was there when I first applied the repellant product, but somehow new dirt seems to get almost baked on. What I mean by that is that the new dirt doesn't come off easily with Sonax, a wheel cleaning brush nor hand washing. I almost feel like I need to use a fine steel wool to get it off, though I would never do so! I'm not positive the Meguiars product is to blame, but if I DON'T use the repellant product then the wheels seem to clean up much easier next time...though obviously they get dirty faster.

Thoughts on what to use to repel brake dust? I'm not ready to invest in ceramic pads if that reduces dust.

sometimes the repellent needs 8 hours to cure before use. when the car is driven before that time the brake dust might be sitting in the repellent and actually becoming part of it.
