I experienced the black screen while car idling or driving, sometimes the screen wouldn't pop up when starting the car and sometimes the screen wouldn't come down when shutting the car off. While driving, screen would freeze when pushing reset button for MPG. Sometimes it just resets itself while driving. All this happened but my audio was never affected.

***UPDATE***

I picked up the car on Saturday. The mechanic indicated he disabled the Navi and took care of the other "relay" that someone in the past tried to hook up in the car for "fog lights". Didn't make sense to me but whatever, the car seems to be running fine now. As of Saturday, my car hasn't died in the maximum period of the car being turned off for 22 hours. It cranks a little weak but I'm thinking it's because the battery died way too many times that I need to give it a good charge at my local autozone or have it replaced with my warranty. Only thing that now keeps me up at night is not being able to set my time or date on the screen, and having to guess which mode I'm in whether it's CD, AUX, or RADIO. Overall, I'm satisfied to know that I paid $135 to find the issue. Eventually, i'll end up buying a new Navi unit to replace it. Thanks all for your time and assistance, it's truly appreciated!

Thank you! Well so far, I haven't had any issues starting the car. I guess it was the Navi after all. However, this morning on my way to work, I accelerated to pass a car and at that moment, I got a smell of coolant, or some sort of fluid. I rolled down the window to try and take a stronger sniff but to my surprise the window got stuck at the middle, just froze completely, not going up or down at all. I didn't get the smell of fluid anymore but my window is still not functioning. I've had issues with the window regulator in my Z3 before and also on the Z4 passenger door, i replaced both but this time i don't get any sound or any type of motion from the window. I'm thinking it's the window motor. Any way to confirm this? I'd like to go home and open up the door panel but I'm not sure what to look for.

Window still not moving. I'm thinking it's the motor. I have a Z3 window motor for driver's side, looks similar to the one in Z4. Anyone know if it'll work? Again, I don't even know if it's the motor at this point.

Check the fuses before you assume the motor's died....

Do you by any chance know what fuse # that would be? Also, I heard a thump a few times inside my door panel when locking my car. Maybe something is loose in there

Found the use card. I checked fuse # 41 and 46, they seem to be fine. I tried rolling the window once again but the only noise I hear is coming from the fuse box itself under the passenger dash. It's a clicking noise. Any thoughts anyone?

Get a BMW scan tool and test the windows and scan for any faults in chassis computer.

I just replaced the fuses anyway but no luck. I could buy a scan tool but I just had the car in the shop for 3 weeks, I recall the technician there asked me if my driver's window was working because he couldn't program it to go up or down through his computer. At that point the window worked fine, just not the one touch up/down. Could it be that the motor was on its way out?

At this point I would pull the door card and see if the motor's getting any voltage, check for obstructions, etc.

That's correct StickMon, only driver's window is stuck, passenger's works fine even with the one touch up/down. As I was driving today with my left arm on the armrest, I felt and heard something inside the door shell fall off, thinking it's something to do with the regulator or motor.

Another new issues that rised today;
1) my radio stations sound low and with a lot of static and no longer have Bluetooth connection. I'm thinking that's happening because my NAVI is disabled.
2) my steering wheel buttons are not functioning well anymore. I have to really push HARD on them to change the radio station or lower/higher the volume, and when it wants to work, it'll work, if not I'm stuck listening to static without being able to control volume.
3) buttons on radio itself don't change the radio stations programmed on buttons 1-6.
4) blinker gets stuck when turning left, sometimes when turning right
5) AC blows but not cold as it should, sometimes it even feels hot in this 100 degree weather. My mechanic checked for air leaks but found nothing, no lack of freon either.

UPDATE

Window is still an inch down, all other symptoms described above still continue, as of yesterday EVEN MORE often. I noticed that these symptoms happen when the airbag light appears on my dash. I need to get all this resolved before my inspection next month.

Window works fine now after finally buying the correct window motor. I swapped it out and Voila!

As for my airbag sign lighting up, it's more constant now; signals stick or don't flash in my dashboard, AC doesn't blow cold AT ALL, radio doesn't turn on or volume gets muted automatically, steering wheel functions are gone.

I'm ordering the Steering Angle Sensor and I suppose the clockspring as well.

I've replaced the front and rear bumper supports and replaced the passenger tail light. I'm getting closer to getting my car in top shape little by little, as money and time allow but soon I'll stop complaining and venting to you guys. Thank you all for your time and help!

Ross, I just learned on the E46 forum that an ignition switch can cause all of these weird issues on E46's. I've not heard of that happening with the Z4, but who knows. I keep a spare ignition switch on hand, because they do commonly fail, but it might be worth a try.

Thanks for the response Salty, always appreciated! I replaced my ignition switch less than 1.5 years ago. I did read about this issue with the E46's. I suppose I could replace it again as it's not pricey but it's strange man, my car hasn't been having any of these symptoms I listed for the past 2 days; all radio and steering wheel controls are functioning, AC blowing cold, alarm seems to beep once when locking and beep twice when unlocking. I no longer have that loud thump on my right passenger rear fender. Before spending money on all these replacement parts/sensors, I'm going to buy the scanner (link below) from ECS, specially now that it's got 20% off. I need it anyway to clear and read a few codes on both Bimmers.

Those are the modules that are reporting faults. Your scan tool should be able to read them out in particular you need to look at the DME faults to begin with.
