Just kidding.. I figure it shouldnt be much. Straight forward. If you have much experience it would be an easy DIY but id expect under $400.+ Just depends on rotors Id think.

Not sure, i had it towed for a noise in the rear wheel. They told me the pads were 5% in the front so I said go ahead and replace it. I pick it up tomorrow so I havent seen the invoice. the shop was recommended on bimmerforums. I believe theyre a sponsor too.

LOL sorry that was pretty funny. However I want to do my brakes as well but now seeing this I have doubts. Is there a detailed step by step DIY guide anywhere?
just found this: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=brake

While I had done many a pad replacement, this video helped by lighting up some "grey" areas I had. It was as easy as shown.

I've been doing brakes since I was 14, don't let Roffle Waffle scare you. It's really easy once you do your first set.
On the other hand.......DRUM BRAKES ARE THE DEVIL I HATE THEM. |

Are the brake pad changes similar to the E46 3 series?

+1 on both of these. I'd add some beat up jeans into the mix. I actually have a set of "brake job" clothes now. Really. Still way cheaper than having it done by a shop though.

Wow - pricey. Even the notoriously expensive Canadian BMW dealers up here only charge around $430 for front rotors, pads and labor to install.

Roffle...your video was hilarious. It reminded me of me doing my brake on my X5 a few years back. Everything went fine until I got to the caliper retaining bolts. Struggled with it for about an hour just like your video, then realized that I'm not gonna get that thing off without an air gun. Had to put everything back together, drove to my friend's garage and had him installed all 4 pads/rotors/sensors...all for a whopping $120 buck worth of labor. He's been doing all my brakes since
