Issue with Homelink with ignition on.

Yes, I know I know this has been beat to death; and believe me my concern here is not what you might think it is. I've done quite a bit of searching, and can't quite find any posts that describe this particular problem.

By now I've memorized the set-up process...it's really quite simple.
The issues I'm facing here are:

1. I'm unable to program anything while the car is actually on. Homelink lights turn on solid when pressed, and nothing happens even if I hold pressed....just solid on light. (No problem with key in Pos 1 or 2.)

2. After successfully programming with the key in Pos 2, garage door opens/closes just fine IF the car is off. However, if the engine is running, not so much. Hitting the homelink button with the car running yields a solid green light....no quick on/off to let you know it's working.

Has anyone here encountered a similar issue? Is this a coding issue with the vehicle?

FYI, garage door motor is rolling code, not linear...not sure that's relevant though.

Thanks

Wasnt quite sure if responses were meant as sarcasm. Lol. Was HomeLink a rare option on MZ4's? If this was retrofitted by previous owner, perhaps it was not wired to the proper fuse?

In any case, I suppose. I should try calling HL support and see what they've got to say.

I didn't think this was an option on the Z4. It might be aftermarket and wired up wrong.

Homelink wasn't offered on the e85/e86 Z, unfortunately So it may be a wiring issue from the retrofit as "Dalecan" had indicated.

?

That's odd - I just bought my '06 Z4C a few months ago - it's got a "clown nose" rear view mirror (big red bulb thingy on the bottom - not sure what it is) and it has the Homelink buttons along the bottom edge of the mirror. Works great on the my gate. Is that not the correct mirror?

You are one lucky guy to get that retrofitted mirror! That mirror is usually found on the 3 series convertible. Regardless, I would gladly trade for that "incorrect" mirror anyday. So now, your Z isn't really "stock" at all as indicated in your signature

I retrofit a Homelink module to the panel under the climate control a couple of years back, and wired it to permanent power. The unit has nothing to do with coding in the car - it's an independent device. I have both a garage door opener and gate opener programmed, both work fine with the car on or off. They are both fixed code (not rolling code) devices.
