I am depressed after reading what happened.. Makes me wonder if I should extend my warranty on my 08 this year.. I hope things work out..

Makes you wonder doesn't it? Confirms for me that doing work on the car is best done by yourself, or a really good indie shop with a stellar reputation with the S54. I'd put the odds at 99:1 that the dealership screwed up and caused this failure. For me it's not a warranty or equipment reliablity question, it's a service competence question.

Agree, and will only get worse as the S54 disappears from many dealership tech's availability. VANOS and bearings seem to be the weak spots of this amazing engine, that's not too bad considering other manufacturers have far more problems that are difficult to diagnose, and expensive as hell to repair.
