Anyone had windshield inner trim leather cover pilled off?
Here is the problematic area in yellow circle.
The leather or vinyl cover is being coming off. It was like that when I bought my z4. Has anyone had this problem? How do I take off that trim to repair? How do I fix that? Any advise? Here is part diagram from realoem. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...20&hg=51&fg=40 Part #2. Looks like it consits of two different parts. One priced around $60 and the other priced over $800!!! Is the $800 one is the correct replacement part? If so, there is no way I am getting it. |

Sounds like you have extended leather as mine doesn't have anything but hard plastic on the section. That will be an expensive fix to buy new. Maybe ask if a local trim shop could redo the part you have?

to take the part off you have to unscrew the visors, should be 2 screws for each visor. After those come off just pull the whole trim part towards you and disconnect the wire harness for the map lights. If you have the Nav system, this is where the antenna is as well. It should come out really easily by sliding towards the back of the car and down.

Anyway, looks like I can use 3M spray glue for vinyl to re-glue the leather. I think I will do this myself using this glue and heat gun and see what happens. If I screw up, then I will look for trim shop or maybe I can just redo the whole thing with carbon fiber wrap??? |

Been there. It's an easy fix.
Take the screws out of the sun visor hinges and part #2 comes right out as Nate said. I left the dome lights in and disconnected the connector as I removed #2. #2 holds both #1s. Once #2 is out, they just lift right out. Took them in the house, cleaned and conditioned with Gliptone, peeled back the leather and applied Liquid Nails high-temp formula to all but the edge that folds over. Wrapped with gauze and left overnight. Removed gauze and applied Liquid Nails to the part that folds over. Used popsicle sticks and binder clips to clamp the folded over edge and left overnight. Particularly on #1, make sure you peel back a good bit of it. Mine had a bubble. I peeled back just a little past the bubble and glued. Now it's trying to make another bubble farther back, which I won't be able to get to now that I glued the snot out of my only access. |

Use the binder clips to hold the edge folded over while the glue dries.
Use the popsicle sticks under the clips on the side that will show to spread the pressure, so the clips don't leave marks. Doesn't have to be popsicle sticks, but I was doing this on my kitchen table and there happened to be some within arm's reach. You just don't want to get a dent where the binder clips clamp down. |

Auto parts places used to stock upholstery cement. I've used the stuff many time fixing that exact thing. It's a lot like rubber cement and it dries flexible. I would try that first.
P.S. Clean that area to be glued and don't go overboard with the amount of glue-it only needs just enough to stick. |
