Hair dryer works and better if you remove lens. the seal is gone so you will have to seal break in gasket with caulk or silicone.

Hello mate, Ive had this issue before but not as bad as this. Make sure that your headlight housing door is closed properly first of all, and if you're upto it, remove that side of your bumper and pop the headlight out to see if the rubber vent tubes are clogged in any way. While you have the headlight out, make sure the seal around the lens hasn't been compromised in any way. Do note, some occasional moisture is fine as it can occur from sudden temperature differences, but yours does seems a bit excessive. Hope you figure it out, cheers

Headlight out job. There is a butyl between the lens and the headlight housing. Buy a butyl tape from the online retailer of your choice get the headlight out put it in cardboard box cut a small hole in it use heatgun to heat it up inside just make sure you will not overheat it. That cardboard will act like an oven Check inside every couple of mins. That glue is going to soften up with temp allowing to split the headlight. Split it remove the butyl glue and clean thoughrly. Apply new glue and put it back. If you decide to do that it’s a good time in which you can actually replace the lens with a new ones. Headlights will look like new. It’s good Saturday afternoon project. Good luck!

Hello - had this issue last year after I changed a bulb and the back of the headlight assembly wasn't properly sealed afterwards. Popped it back off and used a hair dryer to dry the compartment and then properly sealed it back up, no issues since. Back of assembly with retaining wire can be seen in this photo:

You've successfully removed the lens on these Z4 headlights with permaseal attaching the lens to the housing? They don't use butyl to seal the lens on, so just wondering how they opened with heat

Honestly I’ve done x5 ones. Not Z4. I wouldn’t think Bmw would use something else and I’ve seen lenses for sale. I have also done Mercedes w211 ones made by hella. Mine in 06 looks to have butyl tape.

I've retrofitted a ton of Z4 headlights with Dual Angel Eye LED rings and none of them used butyl, the lenses were all attached with permaseal glue. I doubt your 06 used butyl, but maybe I'm wrong. Just so you know, not all BMW model headlights use the same method for attaching the lens

Well I have never said it. Mine could’ve been taken apart that’s why they seem to have butyl. That’s all if others are different I didn’t know.

This retrofit looks pretty nice mate. Ive done one myself for my own car after hiring a shop that couldn't do it because of code issues. Z4 headlights are quite funky to work on but it was fun.

Thanks, Yes, the Z4 headlights are unique to work on. Not sure how those stock dim angel eyes can be considered DRLs since they're so faint you can hardly see them during the day

Yes, I can help, but don't want to take this thread further off topic, so probably better to start a new thread with the exact details about your AE issue. The AE operation is pretty simple so should be easy to diagnose.

Well at least you know that you have to turn lights on at night. Daytime running lights are so bright in some cars that people tend not to run them on in the evenings. If knob is not on auto they will keep on driving like that and your rears are off in that instance. Seen that million times. Back in the day wou wouldn’t be able to see your dash gauges in the evening without your lights on. Now daylights are me bright dash is on means the car is good to go

No matter how many times I used heat gun to clear moisture, couldn’t remove it in entirety…in my instance the issue was caused be not properly aligning the cover…I used silicon packets to absorb the moisture completely, put a little Vaseline on the seal and haven’t had an issue since
