I believe you can rent it from one of the bushing suppliers. I dont have the link handy, but I'll check through my records when I get out of work.

If you search old posts for RTAB, someone posted a few months ago that they had changed theirs, then replied farther down the thread with a link to the place they got the tool.

I was wondering the same thing! Be nice to have a forum one that we could pass along to everyone who needed it! Now that I have done my FCAB and front sway bushings, it gets me wanting to do those as well. Guess I should do my end links up front to just so it is all nice and tight.

i could pick one up to add to my rental collection if people would be interested. i think they're pretty reasonably priced, so rental cost would probably be around ~$25.

I'll vote "yes", since I'm at 45K miles and coming due soon. At what mileage (50/50 suburban/highway) are people seeing replacing their bushings as having a significant change in how the car feels?

I have the tool and would be willing to rent it, but I need to work on my M Coupe first and my co-worker's E46.

I would rent one from a forum member for sure. I would probably move up my schedule to do mine as well.

On a related note, if there's interest, I could farm out my FCAB tools, once I get around to using them myself.

Donoman,

Are you still willing to rent out your RTAB tool?

One install question, when installing OEM rubber bushings how have you been setting the preload? One approach mentioned (but never commented to) on an M3 board was to lightly tighten the new bushing in the carrier so it could move, bolt up the carrier to the car and mark where the bushing ended up settling. Then drop the carrier and tighten the bushing down, keep its position in the carrier. Thoughts on this technique, rather that trying to make or find a tool?

TIS have instructions for preload with and without tool. I did my RTAB last month. I jack up the rear to ride height and use a straight edge to align before to torque to final value. Make sure mark the three bolts before removing so toe in will be close to original settings.

RTAB removal can use rental tools from Autozone, but pressing the bushing without proper guide can damage the busing. This tool I have ensure bushing is pressed in properly.

See attached instructions.

one other advantage of using poly RTABS is you will never need a puller again.
