Got my Kiwi 2 Wifi

Got my Kiwi today and relegated the ELM to the drawer of misfit toys.
Almost buried the whole Kiwi up under the dash, but it has status indicators, so I didn't.
Good thing, because it doesn't seem to wake up from sleep mode automatically. You have to push the little "wake up" button.

BMW must have used non-standard PIDs for Oil Temp, Ambient Temp, and Exhaust Gas Temp, because DashCommand still can't find them. I was hoping it was something with the ELM, but no joy.

So I guess I'll be deleting the Oil Temp, Ambient Temp, Catalyst Temp, and Fuel Rail Pressure gauges.

I've added Bank 2 Fuel Trim (original came with just bank 1).
Also added "ONE" to the ENGINE panel in prep to add an ENGINE TWO panel.

The tall gauge on E1 is Timing, Fuel Trim 1, and now Fuel Trim 2.
I think on E2 I'll drop Timing, keep FT1 and FT2, and add Bank 3 and 4 Fuel Trims. (Yes there is).
Apparently bank 1 and 2 fuel trims are from the pre-cat lambda sensors and bank 3 and 4 are actually for banks 1 and 2, but from the post-cat O2 sensors. I'm not sure how it reconciles 2 separate calculations for the injector dwell on each bank.
The other 4 gauges on E2 will be wideband Lambda and O2 raw readings.

If you have DashCommand, you can download it here.

I've found that the PIDs that you can record tend to be vehicle specific to the make/model of car and it doesn't matter what software/protocol is used to connect.

The Z4M gives more PIDs than my Z3MC. I assume that the ECU software is written so that only a limited range of data is revealed to third party products and if you want full access to the ECU you need BMW companion software to gain access. But I could be wrong.

Done for now

Added Engine Two panel with all 4 fuel trim banks and all available wideband O2 and Lambda readings.
Not sure why "Bank 3" and "Bank 4" fuel trims read in the range of about -30 to -40. Maybe it's in hog's heads instead of percent.
Done for now. Not much left that I can add.

Hey StickMon, I've been going through this thread, going over the spreadsheet, and as much other info as I can find. I'm on Android, so I'm using Torque. Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

I've got bank 1 position 2 and bank 2 position 2. From that I'm able to see the Fuel Trim (F/T) and the O2 Volts (O2). However, I can't seem to see Fuel Pressure or the AFR as it says its a closed loop.

I've gone through the this wiki page: HERE for the OBD2 PIDs and I see the following:

using Mode 01 or Mode 02
HEX ___ PID
15 ___ bank 1 - sensor 2 - O2 Volt, Fuel Trim
19 ___ bank 2 - sensor 2 - O2 Volt, Fuel Trim
24 ___ O2S1_WR_lambda(1) equivalent ratio, volt
25 ___ O2S2_WR_lambda(1) equivalent ratio, volt
34 ___ O2S1_WR_lambda(1) equivalent ratio, current
35 ___ O2S2_WR_lambda(1) equivalent ratio, current

But I'm not sure which of these I need to calculate AFR. Could you help point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Gery

I don't have fuel pressure either.
This says:

"Given that Lambda (λ) = AFR / AFRstoich we can solve for AFR (air fuel ratio) such as AFR = λ * AFRstoich"

See sheets 7 and 36. And I think AFRstoich is 14.7.

But I'm not sure which sensor DashCommand is using. One or all of the following, it seems:

SAE.WO2S11.LAMBDA
SAE.WO2S11_B.LAMBDA
SAE.WO2S21.LAMBDA
SAE.WO2S21_B.LAMBDA

Specific question.

Does your ZED4M1 dashboard have all the PID's that you have found, already loaded into it, or do I have to put them in the 'Persistent PID' section of Dash Command?????

I didn't do anything with the Persistent PID settings.
All of the gauges use standard PIDs.

Have you considered replacing your GPS unit for these functionalities? What if you could route your XM through a touch device in the old Nav housing?

I've been wanting to do that forever. (Just a creative idea).

Thought about it, but I don't have the ambition.
iPad mini in the nav housing would be perfect for DashCommand.
Not sure how I would integrate the XM, though.

I think the biggest thing is all the rest of the radio controls that route through it. If I knew how to tackle that without really messing too much with functionality, I'd have done it by now more than likely.

I thought you were having too much fun!

Shane, take a look at this mate, last few pages.. very, very cool, and somewhere along the line ill probably do that..

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewto...56746&start=45

Stick, Dashcommand combined with Harries Lap timer would be a great little instrument to have. I love what your doing..

one question though, why Oil temp mate? thats already on the dash right?

cheers

No oil temp, water temp.
No oil pressure either. Although I would like it, i don't want it bad enough to add about $400 of bits to the KiWi.

I think I have the technical capability to do some really cool things with the radio and nav, but lack the time and ambition.
If the amp or the head unit go pear shaped, it'll force my hand.
I'll chuck the whole business, put in a modern, high end head unit and amp, and put an iPad or Android in the nav.

That Sony Android integration looks totally sweet!
