Rodent uprising?

Did something once try to make a lunch out of my Coupe? I've been elbow deep in my VANOS rebuild and noticed these 'chew' marks on my fuel rail. I didn't see any other signs of a rodent revolution but this seems like something I'd want to repair while I'm here.

Anyone ever have the need to replace this bugger?

Also, bonus sexy valve train pic

I once had a nearly new Subaru in my driveway as a loaner car, for 3 days. A rodent ate through a fuel line and it sprang a leak! Nasty little critters.

This doesn't answer your question regarding replacement of the fuel rail parts, but I wanted to add in some general info in case someone searches and finds your thread.

I have extensive experience with the issue regarding rodents and cars. I live in a rural area where rodents (mice mostly) will move into a car at my house real quick. What most people don't know is that their comprehensive insurance coverage covers repairs due to rodent damage.

Thats a part of the air line to the idle regulating valve (or ICV), so it should be an easy fix.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_0910
1 no. 11 and 2 no. 8.
The marks on part no.10 may look better after some buffing. If not, and you cant live with it, the airbox has to come out... Then its a good time to clean the ICV. :P

That sure looks like rodent teeth OP, and a very timely post as I just checked under the hood only to find rat turds and the foam fire wall in the engine bay chewed up. Little bastards
It looks like it would be a nightmare to try and replace.

Thanks for the trap ideas

Good info, I actually had the wiring harness chewed through my Nissan truck by mice/rats/whatever and I had my insurance cover the (extensive) repair bill.

If anyone has any experience in replacing this engine bay insulation piece please get in touch. Cheers guys.

It appears http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_4955 part is $110.48 it appears you would need to remove EVERYTHING attached to the firewall to replace it

Oh shit, that sux!
The only ”easy” way to replace is to by a new mat and cut it in sections and fit it around the hoses etc. Use a ruler or somerhing straight and cut it with a very sharp and thin blade. Hope its not glued on...

I’ve also had a visit by the m-fers last year. Luckily the only thing they chewed on was one nipple of the cow milk sack looking thing.

Yikes! I haven't had one chew through anything, but he/she/them took up residence in the airbox. Nasty buggers. I ran that through the dishwasher wish some chlorine enhanced dish detergent.

Now I let the Jack Russell and her cat companion (they're a rodent killing team, 80 voles last summer) in the garage quite frequently to search and destroy. So far no returning lodgers.

Nice mouser team! Years ago we had a vole problem on our lawn. My wife discovered that ferrets are supposedly expert rodent hunters. She called up a local pet store, chatted up the owner and then asked if she could rent a ferret for the day. The owner was aghast at my wife's proposition. Definitely a keeper this one.
