2003 BMW Z4 3.0i SMG to Manual 6MT Completed

I just recently completed a SMG to manual swap on my 2003 BMW Z4. It had some interesting challenges, but overall was not all that difficult. I've not seen any write-ups on the Z4 SMG to Manual swap (there are quite a few on M's), so I will try to write something up in the near future. In the meantime, if anyone is thinking about doing it, I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

BTW, I ordered in all of the parts and completed the entire swap on my own with the exception of the programming (which was the only real challenge and took 3 specialists to get right).

Cool, can't wait to see pics and a work log, I doubt there are any for the M as they came in manual only, unless you meant a swap from manual to SMG?

I'm guessing he's talking about swaps in the M3's from SMG to a "proper transmission".

Sorry, yes, I meant the M3's. It was a type-o.

So in this case, did you use all of the OEM SMG hardware (Clutch, flywheel, trans, etc)? Or did you swap over a new transmission?

What did you find was different between the E46 M3 SMG to MT and the Z4 SMG to MT?
