"Retro-fit" OEM windscreen

I just finished installing an OEM windscreen, the one that came with new roll bar covers, the silver ones that I dreaded having to use! I wanted to use my original black ones against the advice of the person that sold them so I was careful taking them off and wallah, I only broke 2 tabs (out of 10 each side) One of the replacement covers wasn't drilled for the bracket but that became a silver lining as it was marked where the holes needed to be drilled and the slots needed to be cut out for the roll bar screen. I say silver lining because seeing those marks made me curious about drilling my black ones and wallah #2, they too were marked for drilling and slot cutting!

The purpose of this post is to find out if anyone wants to install the OEM windscreen, but doesn't want to pay for new covers, or just doesn't like silver, it turned out to be 10x easier than I thought. I can post pictures and such if anyone wants.

Where did you buy the oem windscreen? I have the "gimp mask" version now and don't like the way it looks.

I bought the whole OEM kit from Euroactive, the instructions that I had to get separately, at Roadstersolutions wanted me to remove all these ribs and bits that were already removed, or, not there would actually be a better way of saying that. Having the replacement hoops there helped a lot to know where to pry, it was warm too so I'm sure that helped in not breaking the tabs. As far as I saw, the replacement hoop covers are exactly the same as the stock ones, the stock ones even had the exact areas that needed to be cut out clearly marked. Very happy to have my original black covers!!

I'll get some pictures and post them tonight. Besides getting to keep the black ones, it should save anyone the cost of new hoop covers.

And, the replacement that didn't have the slots cut out. The holes were drilled but the mark that was indicating where to drill could still be seen, the marks I'm pointing at were there for all 3 spots to cut out for the 2 smaller roll bar screens. I thought about doing this to my black ones and what a stroke of luck, they were marked just like the one pictured.

Interesting. When I went about this project a few years ago I only wanted the center removable section so ordered it along with the mounting brackets and screws. I lined up the brackets on my stock black hoops and drilled some holes. The screws went in fine and I have had no issues since. I believe there was an option to buy new black hoop covers in the past. It could be they are sold out now.

chickdr, I'm not surprised that drilling those holes worked, the plastic cover under the hoop covers has a hole in it already for those screws. Had you missed and blew out the side of the little boss in there it would have been a disaster! You must have hit it spot on!

The main reason I put this up here was for people that wanted to do what you did, but were told they had to buy new covers. At something like $250 for all 4, it's a bit of a waste.

So basically we can drill the original ones to get the same result from the ones BMW wants to sell with the windscreen?

What is the part number for this? Because I went on RoadsterSolutions and it was around $600+

Also, I know it is removable, but are there any visible brackets or gaudy holes?

Really want to do this. Thankks
