Another Z4M gets Magnaflows

So I bought some Magnaflow cans with CC inserts from one of our fellow ZPOST members. They sound great! It is exactly the sound I was looking for, they are aggressive and deep sounding but not overly loud, no rasp and when you get on it it sounds amazing. Basically similar to stock but louder. I also just drove the car 200 miles on the interstate and at cruising speed they are very tame. With my music on I could hardly even here the exhaust. I will post pictures and videos this week.

I bought them from a guy on the forum for 240 shipped but i think you could have your local muffler shop do the same thing for around 350

Did you maintain the stock mounting points?

I just read up on CC Inserts. How many disks did you use and where did you install them. Very much looking forward to pictures and audio/video. I'd really love to not spend a fortune (which I don't have now) on an exhaust!

Yep the mount to the stock mounting points and the stock rubber hangers. Im not sure on the CC inserts as I didnt do them but I can ask the guy I got them from. This exhaust is really the way to go its pretty ridiculous to pay 1000 dollars for mufflers

Anything else is a waste of money, IMO. You are paying for a brand name at that point. I still want to do some roll-ons with someone else that is running something other than Magnaflows. I bet the performance is identical. But the price difference sure ain't.

Why stop there? Looks like I can get a set of Thrush Turbos for $33 a set.

Haha play nice now! Magnaflows are a name brand muffler as opposed to Thrush or other crap. Actually Magnaflows are notorious for drone but I think the CC insert actually helps kill the drone so my set up is pretty drone free. I also have my trunk dynamatted which may make some difference

Magnaflow performance should be just as good as other z4m exhausts since its a straight through design. I use magnaflow on all my cars I have had good luck with them

OK I'll play noob here...what is a CC insert?

Can't wait to hear vids of this, I just replaced my oem mufflers with some generic resonators and the thing sounds so awesome...although there is drone, and I already have dynamat on the horizontal part of my trunk. Maybe this weekend I'll do the back and side vertical walls to see if it helps with the spare dynamat I have. I'm still on the fence whether or not I'm going to keep it, but I'll wait til later this month when we do our NorCal Exhaust Fest (bunch of us getting together comparing exhausts and making a video for the forum so we can all finally have something to reference) and hear what other people's sound like before I decide if I should switch to Magnaflow.

I'll definitely look into getting these.

Do you know if your set-up has the 2 or 3 disk version?

Took at look at these: seems to me they'd decrease flow and increase back pressure. Basically they look like a form of restrictor that decreases the size of the exhaust piping and increases turbulence. There are some holes between the baffles, but if the baffles are pretty snugly mounted in the exhaust piping there would not be flow between baffles. I can see how it would help with drone, by changing both resonance and flow.

If this is indeed what they do (and I could be on the wrong boat--feel free to point out the flaws in my assessment) why would you want to add them to a system? If my assessment is accurate, then it doesn't seem like a great trade-off to me.

They do create a restriction but not much of one. The muffler is free flowing enough to where these are atleast as free flowing as stock. I didnt really do this performance as much as I did sound. It adds to the driving experience for me. I can say my car actually feels a little bit quicker from the butt dyno but who knows.

Yeah, I "hear" you on the sound aspect. The last sentence of the dyno results write up makes me wonder a bit, but since, as you said, the change may be net compared to stock it may not apply here. The curious side of me just wants to know the niggling details, when in some cases they're probably not relevant.

I'm not knocking this set-up, or the inserts, it's simply questions out of curiosity more than anything else.

I know a lot of folks would find the volume (and drone in some situations) of the REs I have to be bit too much, but I like 'em. And I didn't get the car dyno'd before and after because I was after some subjective improvement in sound that makes driving more enjoyable for me (which they do nicely for me).

Niggling details about flow rates (too much, too little, whatever) or other technotrivia that we're not going to be able to track down anyway aren't the point. If you like your set-up and are happy with the sound/performance (and a great price), that's what matters.

You've said this in no less than 10 different threads, but I'm going to disagree. What u pay for is a lot of R&D and a refined sound... not just the name. You're obviously happy with your system, but there's certainly a lot more to an aftermarket system like SS, Remus etc. Most people are used to spending the extra pennies on these cars to begin with and are ok w/ it.

I'm pretty sure Magnaflow probably puts as much into R&D, if not more, than these other companies. This is pure specualtion though....
Sound is all personal opinion. I am curious to see how the Magnaflows sound

Magnaflow for the most part is quality, they just have a bad rep for rusting easily. Plus I could've swore there was a well known "aftermarket" tuner who made an exhaust system for the Z4M, which also used Magnaflow mufflers...
