It is. And a tune, while awesome, not necessary to enjoy the headers. Follow instructions = no CEL

Well I dont know about you but as for me I like to keep the human race employed as much as possible while keeping my dollars state side. yeah I get it, Zirc tec whatever has their name on aftermarket tuning jobs for all those high end fancy pants cars.....but the word "Jet" in Jet Hot relates to the fact that the coating has been tested and used on the battlefields. :-)

Ive seen the stuff work in person during my second tour of duty. I remember I heard about this stuff way back before I got into BMW's. Humvees would over heat (especially the M-114 uparmored) and they would have to slow down to cool down..... The day the mechanics convinced the Commander to "sign off" on a "specially Coated" exhaust manifold service ,about a month later the humvees NEVER overheated. Almost All tanks in the military have this stuff on.

So in short Id rather invest in something tested in war thats worth millions (ie, M1,Humvee, Shinooks, etc) Rather than Koenigsegg, Ferrari, and whatever the trustfund/1% yups use.

Hmmmmm......

Zircotech coating used inside of a 300,000 dollar "pull me over" Red Ferrari.....or.....wait for it.........Jet Hot Coating liberally and patriotically applied to a "you cant see me" 30 million Dollar Desert Tan M1 Abrams tank that is still being used today while its carrying several tons of ammunition and enough tech to level several Ferrari and Zircotec plants......

i dont know.

But anyway good job on the coating. Im sure neither of us will see temps under the hood that our coatings were originally designed for

BTW, I have 1700 degree Jet Hot Coating on the inside of the headers to smooth flow AND 2000 degree Coating on the outside.

So Ill see your wuddup and raise you a "oh shiznaps"

Are you gonna return your ESS kit once you figure out its not an American company? Cause its not

Or do you only support your country's economy when its financially convenient for you?

Why don't they coat the ends? If anything, just for a clean look.

What's a good setup for recording under hood temperatures? I'd like to measure before and after installing these.

now on a serious note....

IMHO
I would say the best way to start in this research is to begin with pre and post oil temps.

^ of course the methods of bringing the car up to operating temps must be constant.

This might be be a good time to change the oil as well because viscosity in old versus new oil will def play a role in temp variations

This would be some very worthwhile data and a nice find for the forum. Good thinking!

I was able to find some usb probes that record data, but they're geared to cooking and fairly low temp operation. Might work, might not.

thats gonna be along shot since oil is thicker than water. The instruments arent going to be accurate in the end. Might work though who knows

Oil temp is one metric, and a good one, the other is ambient temperature under the hood. Yes, they are linked, but since the oil cooler and radiator have a capacity, we may not see much difference there on the street. (I only see my temps really go up on the track where I'm on it all the time.) Getting some kind of ambient under hood temps, or a proxy for this, under consistent conditions (speed, outside temp, etc.) would help round of the picture.

Beta may have some other metrics to measure as well. Now that I think about this a bit more, several of the tools on the market (Bav technique, PA Soft I think) allow you to tap into the ODBII port and record realtime data. That's a way to measure air intake temps, water temp, oil temps, and other parameters. Air intake temp is a good proxy for the under hood ambient temp, but it might still be a good thing to measure separately.

I'll take a look at the PA Soft's recording capabilities this weekend, assuming I don't need to reinstall windows to do it.

Great info. I've been considering picking up a PA Soft to play with coding, so if it can record data I would definitely grab one for this.

Oil temp we can get built-in, I know it's not the most scientific though; right now after the car is well warmed up the needle is just a hair below half way. I'm changing the oil next saturday so it'll be relatively new oil when the headers go in.

I was hoping to find some inexpensive probes to also check out ambient temperature under the hood, see what other data people would be interested in gathering.

Right now I'm waiting on my shop to get in touch with evolve to sort out the tune. I don't want to have to send off my DME and wait. If Evolve can't make it happen I'll probably end up with an ESS handheld.
