How away did you look and find your z4mc?
My online searches typically have 500 or 'any distance' selected. I suppose that's an consequence of the rarity of the car. Truly thinking about how far I would travel depends on the car, the deal, the ease of reaching the destination, ... Anyway, how far did you look? How far did go to actually buy your car? How was the experience? Thoughts and comments?

Listing hunted for months, wanted low milage, also had to get rid of a Leased A4. Magical listing came up less than 10 miles away at Carmax, low miles, they could take the A4. Compromised on color but couldn't be happier

I looked all over the states. I ended up buying from wisconsin and I live in tennessee. My experience was GREAT. Considering I bought sight unseen, I got lucky. Spent a few days mailing paperwork back and forth between me, my bank and dealer. Then it took 2 days to get here shipped to my doorstep.

We got lucky and only had to travel 90 miles. I just happened to start looking and after a search on Autotrader and Cars.Com I looked over here in classifieds. It was a case of being the right place at the right time.
I can't believe it's almost been a year. Keep looking, you never know when or where the one you are looking for will be available. Last edited by Finnegan; 02-03-2011 at 12:23 AM.. |

I bought mine via this forum in North Carolina. Cars were plentiful at the time (I was buying new) but that's where I found the best deal. I was darned close to snagging a red one from Isringhausen in Springfield.

Found mine in NY, but was housed in CT. Brought it to a local dealer for free. Had a big problem with title, though. The guy in CT had it for onl a day and said no thanks. Becuase the paperwork was done, the car had to go back up to CT to get the title released from CT into my MD state. Dealer wanted to pick up on a flatbed and haul up to take care of the paperwork. When I dug deeper, I found they were going to take it back to the local lot until they found a transporter who would be heading that direction sometime soon. Then they offered to just buy it back with a small stipend. I said absolutely not. The contract is done and the deal can not be rescinded. So, I offered to trailer it up, oversee the inspection and title transfer and bring it home. At their expense. Well, they did their part. Tolls, fuel, my time, and even paid for my second key that disappeared and a new keychain, hat and driving gloves that I had bought on the same invoice. That way I knoew who had the car and where it was at all times. Was fun trip anyways. Doubled up and picked up my red seats on the same trip, so I wasn't out any time whatsoever. I was going up to get the seats that weekend anyways. Lucky I guess.

Cool stories. It's neat to see that a lot of passionate people own m coupes. Ultimately I will probably pursue the right car and deal even if that means going the distance (literally... :-) )

Search the forum - lots of discussions about buying out of state.
To answer your questions; I bought mine in Texas while living in Phoenix. Flew out and drove 1,200 miles home. I'd do it again in a heart-beat. Great way to enjoy your new car.

500 miles away. I had to go to the OP's neck of the woods to get the car.

I traveled a whopping 6 miles to pick up my car from a local BMW dealer. It was literally a diamond in the rough. The asking price was decent to begin with, so I started bargaining for an entire week straight. It wasn't until the floor manager got pissed off and told me to leave the premises did I finally dump cash in his face
