Z4 sales market

Any thoughts on the Z4 pricing and sales market? Tons of cars listed over KBB but all of them have long durations on market without being sold, looks like the demand is low.

A friend of mine was trying to sell a 2006 3.0si (6spd, 95k miles, every option other than nav, all records, etc.) to upgrade to a Z4m, and never received an offer over $7,500. KBB and CarGurus pegged the value around $9k, with the average listing price $10.5k - $12k.

Those of you that have sold, how long did it take you? What do you use to gauge your price?

If your buying, what would you expect to pay?

Well, the market is what it is. KBB, NADA, CarGurus can say what they want but this doesn't guarantee what the car will sell for. Also depends on time of year, economy, location etc. It sounds to me where your friends car is located, it is worth about $7,500...

The SI is no slouch and up to around 60 mph, can hold its own against an M. Unless your friend is tracking the car or regularly exceeds the posted speed limit, I'd wager that the only benefit he will see from buying the M is the ego boost from seeing those ///M badges parked in his driveway (and I recognize that this is not an easily quantifiable factor). The other factor here is that the new M will be an unknown quantity reliability wise because your friend won't ever know for sure how hard it was driven by the previous owner(s). His existing car however, is well known.

But its his decision!

All in when considering transport and taxes, I paid about $14,800 for my 2007 3.0si 6spd with sport package roadster with 38,000 miles. The selling price was 13,200. This was in March of this year. Sure I might have overpaid a little, but this was a 1 owner with all records and was undeniably garaged kept. not a scratch, not a thing broken.

To be fair, the M is a bit of a different animal. Sure, acceleration/speed wise the SI is pretty close, but steering and brakes are quite different between the two. One drive of the M after testing a few SI's and I knew which one I had to have.

But alas this thread isn't about the Z4 M vs 3.0 SI, its about the market price of a loaded 2006 3.0SI with 95k miles....

If your car was local to GA area, then it would be worth substantial more the a high mileage 95k mile car from the Boston salt belt. As well Boston doesn't have too long of a vert season and snowy winters so the demand is much lower.

Not saying which is the better car, really depends are the users needs and desires, but there's several differences in both driving dynamics, feel and power. The 0-60 times are only a second or so apart, so either will put a grin on your face. I've owned both a si and M and you can't go wrong with either one, each have their pluses and minuses. There's one that should retain its value much better than the other, if that matters to you.

$7500 - $9500 is low for that package. What people don't seem to understand yet is that the N52 cars are as near to bulletproof as you'll get from a BMW. 95K miles is just broken in.

Yes. As others have noted, the Z4M is an awesome car and if you have your heart set on having one, well you simply have to have it. I almost picked up an Imola Red M roadster last year myself, only I found out late and after a hasty meeting with my domestic chief financial officer (i.e., wife), someone beat me to it.

But. The 3.0SI, which offers comparable performance and great reliability, is, at today's prices, one heckuva bargain.

This is the reason I will never sell mine, it is worth at least $20k to me and I doubt I will find anyone willing to pay more than that My car sounds like a twin to the one mentioned though, si (Coupe) with every option except Nav and ~96k miles.

This is very true. Other than needing to replace suspension parts after 12 years, our car has been rock solid. Gonna keep it for some time even if we buy one of the new ones in the next couple of years.

That's always been my dilemma, it would require a substantial investment to purchase anything considered an "upgrade".

I had the same reaction, but, as someone mentioned above it's only worth what people are willing to pay. I don't think someone casually browsing for a "sporty" convertible is going to appreciate the difference in the 06+ N52 cars and over the M54.

With the OP talking about a roadster, everyone knows the coupe will always be more desirable and bring substantially more money the vert.

I've driving around the Boston area and could not imagine driving my Z4 on those rough roads, it was bad enough with my beater 4runner.

I’ve had 3/4 wheels welded due to cracks after 5 years in the Northeast

My buddy just sold his 3.0si coupe manual last week in Southern California for $15,500 with 83,000 miles. It took a few months to sell but the right buyer will know the rarity and value of these cars. The guy flew out from the East Coast to buy it. He bought the car 3 years earlier for about the same price. Not bad. That tells me values are holding steady if not increasing.
