How many miles does a serpentine belt last?

About 96,000 miles...

I don’t recall ever changing mine (in 160,000 miles), but my spanner monkey is quite proactive so may have changed it during one it’s annual services.

Yeah, I need a good maintenance guy like that, I had someone I liked in the last city I lived in but don't know of any good indy shops here. Probably just get racked over the coals by the dealership... at least the one here seems to do good work and is capable.

IMO, the belts "time" out as well as drive distance. Mine were shot at 45,000 miles (roughly 10 years). They become brittle over time. My mechanic pointed it out to me during a routine visit (coolant flush) that the edges are starting to fray and I changed them out proactively.

That is good to know. I am a little over 11 years of ownership but that had never been pointed out to me as an area of concern (and the dealership points EVERYTHING out).

Just replaced mine at 35K miles, same reason. Noted micro-cracks during an oil change.

Both belts had cracks. Upgraded to Power pulley kit from TMS with size appropriate belts.

During a "free multi-point inspection" at a local BMW dealer earlier this year, they pointed out that the serpentine belt has small cracks all around it. They also pointed out that the upper hose is bulging where it attaches to the radiator and water pump and recommended that I also have the lower hose replaced as well. 2006 Z4 M Roadster with about 58k miles on it.

I finally got around to ordering the parts and I'm considering doing the serpentine belt myself. The hoses I'm probably going to have replaced by my mechanic so I don't have to deal with the coolant.

If I had the time right now I would have done it myself as well. I ended up paying ~200 for parts and labor for the serpentine, which was not astronomical at least.

(Please don't tell me how little the part costs and how easy it is... ignorance is bliss for now )

At least they were not also trying to get you to pay up for replacing the tensioner pulley. I got a quote for $526 from the dealership to replace the A/C belt and tensioner pulley. But, I won't tell you how inexpensive or easy it was to just DIY it. The tensioner pulley did not even need to be replaced.

Thankfully the BMW dealership in Des Moines has proven to be very professional. They mentioned beforehand that the tensioner may need replaced but said once they got in and looked, it was fine. They have done a pretty bang up job on the maintenance items I have had them perform for decent (for a dealership) prices.
