Bmw m roadster top question
Hi ,
I recently got a 2006 z4 m roadster and I notice on inside of my top there are two line marks, I think it's caused by the middle part on the back of the head rear ( I attached a pic ) , it looks like it's missing a cover or something, can anyone tell me if it's the way it is ? Thanks |

Yes, looks like you are missing a part in the center. I don't know if that would cause wear on the top. You can probably find the missing part at realoem.com.

No, you are not missing anything.
If I understand the problem correctly your roof liner has WEAR or RUB marks on the liner. These usualy apear on the liner just above the roll bars, right in the center. This is caused by the liner rubbing on the metal "hooks" seen in the picture you provided. The are exposed and do not have a cover piece. The roof has a corresponding clip that graps these hooks and locks the roof down when the roof is open. Although annoying, it is the fold in the roof that causes it to rub that clip while it is opening and closing. I havent been able to find any solution for this as the liner is very stretchy material so you cant tape it or patch it very easily. Good luck and let me know if you find a way to keep it from rubbing or wearing.

Thanks for the answers. But some Z4 / Z4M have a cover thing on that part. is it because those are newer year production? I was looking another Z4 and I don't see that hook metal thing is exposed.

Sorry but I've owned 2 different Z4 roadsters - 2004 3.0i and 2006 3.0si and have test driven many more and I've never seen a cover for the roof lock (not sure how the roof could lock down if it were covered). REALOEM shows no cover on the roof lock for any model year.
Here is a couple of random pics from the internet which show no cover for the rear roof lock - (I did not draw the red circle)

The missing part is just above what WAMz4 circled. The top of his red line touches where the bottom of the part would be. You can clearly see in the pic I posted there is a cover there.

Didn't they eliminate the lock at some point?
Maybe that's the deal. This just in: I checked and I too have two lines where the stowed top sits on the lock, but you really have to be looking for them to find them. I never would have noticed.
