Howling sound - what is it
I was driving my z4mc ('07 with 47,000kms) last night and noticed a faint howling sound when the car was moving only. It stopped when I was stationary.
Its very hard to pinpoint where its coming from over the engine sound and s-sprint exhaust. Any ideas what I should look out for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would first try to confirm whether it is from the engine or somewhere else.
If you have a manual, push the clutch in when you hear the sound and raise the RPMs. Does the sound change? If it's rpm dependent you can tie it pretty reliably to the engine. You can also do something similar to eliminate the tranny. If it's the engine, I would check the intake air handlers- a leaky boot/input tube can make a howling sound especially when you accelerate. -gc |
