I’d strongly recommend that you not start or turn over the engine again until this is repaired properly.

Update: confirmed cam bolts. So grateful I heard the noise, didn't risk driving it and had it towed

Wowie - what year is your car? Do these bolts have the hex or torx head?

Shop referred to them as allen head bolts. 2006 with only 41k miles

Ok so a relatively minor repair and all is good? If so that’s great news. I was worried that this was a major issue. Very glad to hear that it’s not!

Yup, updating vanos parts, beisan anti rattle parts and such. Thanks man. Figured I'd update the thread in case anyone else hears the same noises

Ok, I'll bite. So, these bolts hold the cam drive pulley onto the camshaft? And how did they wind up like this?
