I just got the car back from the dealer. It was the TSB (Mechatronik Seal TSB 24 08 06), it had not be fixed.

No cost? If so, nice.

Nope. The car is an 07 with 29,800 miles. I was stunned that the TSB hadn't been done!

Is there a listing of TSBs? I want to see what else the previous owner missed.

noob question, what is the TSB and does it apply to M line? I too have some oil underneath the car but can't source the origin.

Technical Service Bulletin.

That particular one doesn't apply to the ///M.
I have all manner of oil leaks around the front of the block that I can't find.
I have suspicions about the oil filter housing gasket, timing cover, Vanos, etc.
Mine is probably all of the above.

Angry

I too have an '07 Z4 E85 3.01 and the dealer told me it has a small transmission pan gasket leak and they want $1,083.48 (almost $600 labor and almost $500 parts) to fix it saying the gasket is not replaceable and the whole pan must be replaced. How could the labor be that much? And no gasket available? I found "OEM" gaskets for E85 Z4 on Ebay selling for less then $100

But, Is this covered under the TSB mentioned above and why didn't the dealer tell me about it? I found the TSB Mechatronic Seal TSB 24 08 06 Sealing Sleeve Seepage mentioned above and it sounds like it is for a different problem then my pan leak?

Thanks,

I started the thread and it was the Mechatronic TSB. You might want to find an independent BMW mechanic.

Yes, I have an independent BMW mechanic, but the question I have is whether this would be covered by the dealer on my 2007 Z4, as this TSB was dated 2010 and that's 7 years ago. Also, I'm not the original owner, I bought it from the original owner.

Tindy: They fixed it for free for you? Are you the original owner? How many miles on your car and is it still under any warranty?

The reason I'm asking is that I went to my BMW dealer and they said that it would not be covered because the car is out of warranty at 69k miles. I am the second owner and I bought it directly from the first owner.

Any one want to chime in on this?

Thanks,

I bought my 07 3.0i from a Ford dealer (go figure) with 29,000 miles. When I got the car I bought an extended warranty. If the dealer can't fix the issue they have to send it to the BMW dealer on their dime.

They stated this was a TSB repair and was a $0 cost since it was a TSB.

I'd call around as I was under the impression that a TSB was required to be fixed by the manufacturer at $0 to the consumer. It is a defect.
