Exclamation Check your non-oem Transmission Mounts

Hey guys.

I was prepping my car for this weekends track event and while crawling around under my car I noticed some funk on the passenger side transmission mount. I have the UUC Option 2 (DIY here http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411452 ). The best way to describe it is orange slime. When I touched it, it was definitely some type of growth.

So I decided to pull them out and see what was up. Attached is what I found. The A/C drain line is right above the passenger Trans mount and with the crazy hot summers we have in Texas, all that condensation was being dumped on the mount causing it to erode away. I have put the OEM ones back on for now while I figure out what my plan is.

Also when I put the OEM ones back on, I noticed they had some rust presumably from that same A/C Drain. Here is a picture of what they used to look like new and my OEMs with the rust.

Wow... Good catch!
I'm really surprised how they decomposed!

I've never had good luck with any of UUC's urethane products. The Rogue rubber mounts are just as good if not better than the urethane units.

Wow. Who'da thunk it.

I hope the REs aren't "water soluble".

Good grief! Updating sticky.

I wonder if there was some kind of galvanic corrosion between the aluminum cradle, the bolt/nut? That would rot things out from the inside. Not my area of expertise though.

Now I guess we need a mod to reroute the A/C condensation.

I checked my OEMs that came off. Tiny surface rust on one, but cosmetic only.
I'll be sure to check the REs next time I'm under there.
Been running the A/C a lot last 2 weeks.

Hey Beedub, do you have a/c condensation on yours?

Well track day went great. Shifting felt much better after I put the OEM back in, looking forward to getting something stiffer in there. Thinking I didn't notice a change in the shifter feel because they gradually "dissolved" instead of just going out.

No caps used. Probably going to go with the RE mounts and keep an eye on them. This issue might have been the reason I didn't notice any improvement after changing to the VB Engine mounts.

Is the AC drain line looks like this?

I found that hose loose on top of transmission a while ago and am trying to figure out where it goes.

Yep.
The big end goes to the box for the A/C evap coil.
Apparently the small end sits over the trans mount.

Next time I have the car up I'll see if I can find it and maybe add some extension hose to the small end.

Thank you! thank you! thank you!
How do I put back that hose? That was the only part I found. Do I need any other ring or something? How do I make it to stay?

Also could you describe how I can access it? Do I have to drop the transmission to put it back? Where is it located exactly? Would you take some pics for me if possible?

Thanks a ton!

Gents... I have RE urethane trans...> mounts and AKG motor mounts and they look like new 15 months after being installed.

OP - try AKG products.... they are cheaper and they seem to be pretty good so far.

Plus they are made in the good old USA!

Good luck.

Coincidentally I was under my car this weekend, and found my red trans mounts have done the same exact thing, just the right side mount, which is the one the A/C hose drains onto. I need to research alternate trans mounts, and I'm going to extend the drain hose down below the trans mount level.

Funny that Blind32 and I are both in Dallas...

I have absolutely no idea. We had this conversation before.
All I know is it has to catch water coming out of part #1 here.

Follow the A/C lines from the compressor to somewhere under the passenger compartment to find where #1 lives.
Apparently it's above the right side trans mount.

That's the thread I started.
So is that mean I have to drop the transmission? That's bad new. :-(
How do you drop the transmission? How hard is it? Is it worth to drop the transmission to re-connect this hose?

I think I'll put my car up on the stands and inspect the mounts and A/C drain this weekend.
I put RE mounts on about a month ago, and it's been a hot month.
Better check and make sure I don't have the same thing going on.
I'll try and find that drain hose and get some pictures, and maybe come up with a mod to drain it past the mounts.

Stick with rubber, RE mounts are more than beefy enough.
