Ripped soft top! How to fix (low budget)
Someone broke into my car last night (cut the soft top), and instead of having the canvas and liner replaced ($1800+), I decided to get a replacement soft top assembly from a local junk yard.
Is it difficult to swap the broken assembly with the new assembly? Local shops quoted about $600 just to unbolt the old one and bolt on the new one. Any help is appreciated. |

If you are going to chuck the ripped top anyway, why not try something like this first? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dozd_sDlbtc
If that doesn't work and you are replacing the whole assembly, I would probably look for Shipkiller's top motor replacement guide. It shows how to take the whole top apart and off the car- you should be able to use that as a guide. Apparently is not a very easy job, but it is doable. Just search the site for the soft top motor diy threads. P.S.- have you tried to see if insurance might cover it? Good luck! -gc |
