Ripped soft top! How to fix (low budget)

Someone broke into my car last night (cut the soft top), and instead of having the canvas and liner replaced ($1800+), I decided to get a replacement soft top assembly from a local junk yard.

Is it difficult to swap the broken assembly with the new assembly? Local shops quoted about $600 just to unbolt the old one and bolt on the new one.

Any help is appreciated.

If you are going to chuck the ripped top anyway, why not try something like this first? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dozd_sDlbtc

If that doesn't work and you are replacing the whole assembly, I would probably look for Shipkiller's top motor replacement guide. It shows how to take the whole top apart and off the car- you should be able to use that as a guide. Apparently is not a very easy job, but it is doable. Just search the site for the soft top motor diy threads.

P.S.- have you tried to see if insurance might cover it?

Good luck!

Comprehensive should cover that, if you have it.
Minus the deductible, of course.
