Squeaky Seat. Anyone get the successful silent treatment?
I'm trying to narrow down my squeaky drivers seat. Bouncing up and down on the butt portion alone doesn't make a squeak. But pushing back on the backrest does.
I get out of the car and push back on the backrest, and it squeaks. I then listened and put my hand down towards rear outboard support on the seat mount and it appears the noise comes somewhere from there. I then read one of the posts on Ron Stygar's extensive posts about a "knocking noise from set frame", discussed in a TSB. But I think i've got a squeak, not a knock, but it does discuss a slip-stick sound. Could this be the same thing? Anyone do this repair that the TSB calls for, for the squeaking? Or did they find another method to silence the noise?

Are you sure it's the seat frame, and not the back of the seat pushing/rubbing against the plastic bits at the back , near the speakers and such where it's touching?
I can't have my seat all the way back fully reclined as the squeaking drives me nuts, but I know mine is from the leather rubbing/pushing on the back plastic stuff. Easy fix on mine, move chair a little forwards. I also had this problem in my z3 coupe, but did not have the option there to move the chair forwards, I solved that issue with getting some black stick velt patch and placing that where the chair would touch the plastic, never squeaked again.

I get a knock under hard acceleration. I'll have to find his post.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I have a couple inches between the seatback and the bulkhead. So it's not the two rubbing together.
Dev. it's here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=130986&page=3 Post #69 where Ron put the TSB for the knock

My seat squeak was caused by the seatbelt (receiver part?) rubbing up against the center console. I just put a bit of velcro (soft side) on the back of it and it resolved the issue.

I occasionally get a squeak like you describe and I usually have to slide the seat forward a cm or so and then slide it back. Usually it fixes it, sometimes it does not.

Thanks, that's good to know. I was looking at it and wasn't excited about pulling my seat out of the car. I'll save it for another day.

I have a knock, awesome that you found that post by Ron, its been annoying me forever.
I also occasionally have a squeek, but it doesn't irritate me nearly as much. I think its caused by the leather sides of the bottom portion rubbing against the edges of the plastic base where they meet the leather. I would try some Krytox lube on it. |

intoflatlines... I've heard people say that as well. In my imagination, there is a little plastic wheel that loses it's lube, and the act of moving forwards and backwards on the seat track causes it to re-lube itself in that lube which fell off over time. Yup, vivid imagination.
But I tried the same thing and its still squeaking. Part of me thinks Daffy is in there. Anyone remember "Boobs in the Woods"? It was the 1950s guys, and it's a Porky Pig and Daffy Duck Cartoon. Daffy stole Porky's engine and in the end, porky uses Daffy as the Motor. I wonder if his relatives are in my seat's motor housing?
