Best dustless brake Pad for Z4 M Coupe?
What's the best non-BMW brake pads that have very little dusting and do not squeal?
I drive aggressively on the road and attend about two weekend Driver School a year. The last time I bought... AXXIS Deluxe Advanced Ceramic Brake Pads. Technical Features: - Ceramic materials - Shimmed where recommended by engineering - Application specific formulations - Provides exceptionally long pad and rotor life, and resistance to heat - Low noise, minimal brake dust

I replaced mine with Akebono Ceramics from the Tire Rack............. low noise, very little dust, good stopping power..................... DD only, no track time, but I am happy with them as a DD pad (I tracked and auto-X in my younger years, so I have a small point of reference to revert too "smiles") Would I recommend them for more than spirited daily driving? Probably not, but they fit that bill well.

I just put on Akebono Euro Ceramic, so far no noise and hardly any dust. Have not tried Axxis.

I'm on Performance Friction Z-Rated brakes. They have much less dust than stock, but I haven't taken them on the track yet.

The new Stop Tech pads are getting some good reviews, I think Finnegan has a set IIRC and I'm getting ready to pick up a set myself.

I don't have the rotors. Despite what PF's website says, they no longer produce rotors in our stock sizes.

I put Akebono ceramic pads all around on my wife's Volvo and they are great for near-zero dust. I do feel like I need to apply more pedal pressure with them, but that could also be because the XC90 is so freakin heavy compared to my Zed or my Jeep...

i'm running the axxis deluxe advanced ceramic pads and they too, like the rest of the other pad suggestions here, have been a significant improvement in terms of reduced brake dust. brake feel has definitely become a lot more progressive yet i notice no difference in stopping power right up till max effort braking.

I like them a lot--better feel than stock (more linear), work well at the track (not enough for advanced drivers but noob/intermediate ok). However, not low dust. Better than stock--you bet, but they still dust. I think ceramic are the way to go if minimal dust is the primary objective. Personally I'll be sticking with these for street use and probably upgrading at some point for track use.

I bought these from Tire Rack and installed them tonight, cleaned all the brakes dust from the stock BMW pads and waxed my new BBS wheels. They will stay cleaner and nicer longer...
Akebono is the first brake pad manufacturer to produce a true ceramic pad for European vehicles that delivers the same European pedal feel and stopping power as the Original Equipment (OE) pads. Akebono's exclusive clean wheel formulations help to eliminate the heavy brake dust issues normally associated with the OE pads, too, and a definitive control of noise, vibration and harshness is felt.

^ I've had the Akebonos on my Z4 since April, and have been very pleased........... good street stopping power, zero squeal, and very little dust. Combined with the price and shipping right to my indie mechanic's door, I considered them a winner, YMMV.

New pads
I know this is an old thread so maybe some of you with some first-hand knowledge can give me some help. I just bought a 2006 z4m Roadster. I am a part-time detailer and the brake dust is making me really pissed off.
I guess I'm looking for a unicorn here but I want increase stopping power from my stock brakes and I want the least amount of heat, the least amount of fade, and nearly eliminate my dust. I just bought a new set Bridgestone re - 71, so I'm happy with where the rubber meets the road, but I am going to start autocrossing and I would like to advance to HPDE's in the future, I to aggressively Drive, why would you buy this car if you didn't? I'm just looking for some brake pads that will do everything I want them to do without the Dust and of course most importantly increase my stopping power Over stock Last edited by JJZ4MR; 12-17-2016 at 12:22 PM.. |

I was running Performance Friction Z rated pads for a while. They were a good compromise between street manners (no squeal), good grip and modulation for autocross and dust level. They showed some fade on the first track day I ran them on the Daytona infield course so I changed to Hawk HP Plus before the full IMSA course track day there. The Hawks are terribly dusty and squeal like a school bus at every stop so you definitely don't want those LOL!
I just received a set of Ferodo DS2500 pads and will be installing them in the next week or so. People I know that have been running them have indicated they perform similar to the Hawks but are quiet and not nearly so dusty. I'll let you know....

Are there any tests comparing replacement ceramic pads with OEM pads ... i.e. measured stopping distance from say 50km/h, 75km/h and 100km/h? That sort of thing?
