N52: Supersprint Headers + Custom 3" Exhaust
Finally bit the bullet and went with Supersprint headers. Unlike my S54 counterparts, the N52 headers from Supersprint do not come with flanges. You are required to a) purchase their secondaries which are more expensive than the headers or b) go custom. I went with the latter.
After doing much research, I settled on a single 3" exhaust system. 2.5" would've been plenty but I happen to come across 3" parts for cheap. In many ways this resembles the Bimmerworld race exhaust setup. The exhaust system is 3" stainless steel, all mandrel bent with the following pieces in between: Supersprint headers Burns Stainless Y-adapter Vibrant 3" resonator Flowmaster Delta 40 muffler Pypes 6" oval tip Software wise I'm running Active Auto's N52 tune which takes care of the CEL. Arrived in December
Unwrapped: SS headers installed, perfect fitment. Stock headers with giant cats! As I mentioned above, the Supersprint headers for the Z4 do not come with flanges and I was prepared for a custom job. What I didn't realize was how far they headers would dump out. We ended up having to trim down the SS straight pipes to give further clearance for the rest of the system. The curve exiting from the headers isn't ideal but it's just a function of the Supersprint design. The headers dump out so far it doesn't give much space to wrap the pipe around. However the current layout actually mimics very closely to factory design. We originally tried with 45* bend but there just wasn't enough space. Last edited by 3002 tii; 03-28-2015 at 07:20 PM.. |

Here's first clip recorded on phone. Still not happy with the rasp/buzz in the higher revs. Going to swap out the resonator for a Borla XR-1 but this is how it sounds in the meantime:

Quote:
Y adapter (bought on classified) $150 Borla Mid Muffler $170 Flowmaster Rear Muffler $130 Exhaust tip $40 The rest will be whatever your shop charges for 3" stainless steel with mandrel bends, and their labor. I think the tune is worth it because it not only squeezes last few ponies but it'll get rid of the CEL and allow me to pass state inspection (checked via OBD). Thanks! You just have to find a trustworthy indy shop (I know easier said than done). Last edited by 3002 tii; 03-28-2015 at 07:22 PM.. |

Picked up the car this weekend and took her straight to the track. First event of the year so lap times were pretty slow but I was pretty happy with how the exhaust turned out.
