drove the Z4 sDrive35i today...

very nice car... blue with the limited ivory interior.
looks even better in person... the nose is beautiful, profile nice, the rear looks great... but a little to 'soft' for my taste. the engine sounded very nice... this car had the 7-speed auto... the car had plenty of power, the down shift throttle 'blip' sounded fantastic, and was definitely quick, but lacked the thrust of the my M. still, fun to press the pedal. the interior was very nice, quite an improvement... but still not 'audi' level. the roof was very fast to put up and down. but trunk access with it down was silly. the car felt pretty firm on the road until i took a ramp at 40. it did not have that 'planted' feel my M or even my 3.0 had. definitely more roll, and it was in sport mode. all in all, very nice car. but too refined for my taste... it definitely was leaning towards the SLK side of a ride more than the BOXSTER... it lacked the 'grunt' i love so much in my M. i hope BMW makes an M variant of it, i imagine it would look mean, but engine wise i don't know.... i think we all would love a V8, but i would think it would become very nose heavy. luckily i still have a year and a half on my M.... who knows what will be then.

Does the car have sport pkg? That may explain why the ride is more plush.

I think most of us here would probably go for a E92/E90 M3 for the price of a 35i.

i don't know... but i agree, if no M, then i will seriously consider the M3.
i wish i was in the market for one right now... my sales guy told me they are dying... the dealer only sold 50 cars in april... he's pretty stressed.

Why do you think it would be nose heavy? The S65 engine is 15 kilos lighter than the S54 if I'm not mistaken

just an assumption... two more cylinders, more mass.

Wow first off nice looking car Nikki! Best looking non-m z4 coupe I have laid eyes on but then again I love RGRs. Got any more pics?

I was over looking at the new z4 and it sure does look nice on the outside and the interior is amazing but I am not to sure about the weight and especially the price tag! The one I was looking at was $60,000 and it didn't even have navi on it..... for that price you are pretty close to m3 territory. 414hp v8> 300hp tt inline 6. I just find it sad cause it seems that the z4 is going the way of the SLK but then again I can't say much cause I have yet to drive one

Yes, but who knows what all is being measured. You would have to consider the gearbox and everything else connected to the motor, such as the cooling and exhaust and intake system. I would bet the 15 kilos is block and internals only. Marketing versus reality once again.

I checked out the sDrive35i Z4 yesterday while I was at the dealer picking up some parts.

Not impressed at all... It feels like it was assembled with a mish mash of leftover 3 series parts.

The window buttons on the door... 4 windows?? really?? 4?!? That's just careless and/or lazy in my opinion. Oh, the button for the rear shades was there too.... 5 buttons for a car with 2... TWO windows.

But yes, it was quite comfortable to sit in. I'll have to take it for a spin next time when I've got more time. But based on what I'm reading I don't think I'm going to be impressed.

Looking at pics of the trunk it seems that when the top is down the trunk is unavailable for storage. Is that true? If so, where do you store something simple like an overnight bag?

The space with the roof down isn't actually too bad, it's the access that's the main problem. With the roof down it's pretty difficult to put anything in there (due to the size of the access area). Still, loading or unloading the car prior to putting the roof down is not a travesty.

There are four windows in the car, therefore the need for 4 buttons.

Ah, so your gear goes below the folded top? Not too hard to deal with.

yeah, with the top down... there is only a slot about 18"x12" to slip stuff into. good news is the folding top is quite fast up and down.

Is it clearly defined how high you can stack with the top up so that the top can still come down?
