Z4 Maximus Ten years in the making

Might be a repost but just picked up the bimmer-mag and saw this.

Z4 Maximus Ten years in the making, Rogue Engineering’s S62 V8-powered Z4 roadster was well worth the wait, combining artistic expression with explosive acceleration.

Amazing car. I really like the clean look of those front fenders. Wonder what the bodywork would cost to replicate that.

Nice car but unbelievable that they kept the ugly US bumper reflectors.
Especially when they took all that efford to smoothen out the side repeaters and body line because 'that looked like an afterthought'.

I agree completely re the bumper markers.
Love what they did with the fenders though.
I had been looking at removing the side pucks for quite some time now and have done several renderings.
However I hadn't considered removing the body line as well.
I love this idea and how well the upper fender flows into the side panels.

I have the issue and it was the first thing I read.

This took a decade to complete?

I adore the thing, but in an effort to be different they went with the BMW Parts front valance and it is terrible.

Of course it's their project and like other builds it is the owners desire, and everything else about it is spot-on.

But the front is jacked up.

meh, love it under the bonnet, not so much outside.. the sharp edges of our zeds is what gives the zed its edgey (is that even a word?) look.

True, the Z4 is a very good example of New edge design, and the first car for bmw that defined that period (z4, e9x, e87, e6x).
New edge was a design/styling theme introduced by Ford (ford focus etc) that has its roots in the GT90 supercar/prototype.
That gt90 inspired a lot of cars/designers.

actually, the more i look at that front, the more i think MX5 (mazda).. i actually love the side markers on our cars, its one of the perky things that sets the zed apart from the other bimmers and cars. I can however appreciate the amount of work gone into something like this, but for me its not my cup of thee.. that S62 however.. now were talking

Gotta agree with Vanne. Love the engine idea, but styling isn't winning me over. It could use the M hood for the pinched lines and something different up front. The fenders are a bit more refined, but I do like that Z looking line on our cars. I like the spoiler, if I am remembering correctly it is what the prototype Z4 had, but would look better if it was molded into the bodywork instead of looking like it's glued on.

As much as I can appreciate the effort of this project, the fenders now make this car look like a Honda S2000. I actually feel the the shrap unique lines on the z4 fender make the car stand out from the rest and IMO if you are goting to get ride of those line the areo skits now don't suit the car, stock would look better. But on the other I marvel at the engine swap.

No No No, the "Z" on the side looks amazing for the car. Too boring now on that particular machine.

The more I look at it, the more I don't like it at all from many angles.

The reason that those design details were added was because of the expansive space between wheel arch and door.
My main problem with the OE design is the execution.

The line through the panel is an extension of the A pillar and works well.
Where I have a problem is the crappy circle of plastic that they used to mount the signal puck.
It looks like crap, especially on light coloured cars, where the seam shows even more.
I also think they could have done something a little more creative than a BMW hockey puck.
The whole signal thing screams afterthought to me.

After looking at the R.Eng detail free fender more, and pulling up my old rendering (with crease) I have to agree with you guys.....
My initial impression was that it's clean and fresh, but it goes too far.
