this is a doorpin (not mine) when i drive over minor road imperfections with my stereo off, both my door pins rattle: the sound of hard plastic tapping against hard plastic. it's driving me crazy. has anyone found a solution to this? |

I believe Ron posted a SIB containing a fix. I'm not sure of your year, build date, but you may want to check this out:

I think it's the Bowden cable that hits the metal. I haven't taken the door panel off as that butyl tape is nasty to remove and hard to find except at Volvo shops.

I have pulled the door trim panel off many times trying to fix multiple door rattles...
No butyl tape to deal with - just 4 screws, metal clips at the top near where the window slides down, and several plastic clips around the perimeter... There is a bulletin out there to install a rubber bumper pad because of this or a similar noise. I just bought the bumpers but haven't had time to install them yet... |

I think the butyl tape is behind the faux sound proofing thing:

My passenger door pin rattles, but it's the plastic pin that rattles against the plastic hole it sits in. There is just enough movement that certain bumps will cause the pin to knock into the surrounding material. I am able to duplicate the noise by moving the pin by hand against the walls of its hole. The driver side doesn't have the same problem as that pin sits under some kind of tension, I'm assuming the tension has to do with not being able to lock your keys in the car by accidentally pushing down the pin. Too bad they didn't do the same for the passenger side.

I have this issues on the driver side with the doors unlocked and the pins up. I normally drive around with the doors locked though so it's not really an issue.
