Cool Spring.... is it here?

Well...I went and did it.... Yes, on March 08, 2012 I took my girl out her winter hibernation.

Yes, still probably going to snow...and of course melt and have slippery streets, but right now...the roads are clear, not slippery and the itch to drive was way to much to bear.

Did all the things that should be done when getting her ready, checking this and that, including tires, fluids, etc. Notived a real clacking of the engine while warning her up...but after 5-10 minutes...that went away.

Driving around....I sure got a lot of looks...seems the dirty cars and trucks out there were a bit jealous...but I just didn't care..... my baby roared on by with the driver beaming a huge smile (me of course).

I pulled mine out earlier this week. Did the Inspection 1, changed the coolant fluid, checked the tire pressure and enjoyed it for 2 nice sunny days.

Blizzard outside today ... but weekend and next week are supposed to be nice. The Z is a blast to drive in the snow.

Spring is not quite here in Chicago, but it's been teasing us a little. I can't complain we have had a great winter with record warm temps all season long. Last week I called up my insurance guy and told him I am taking the Z4 out of winter storage and to reinstate my full coverage. I dropped the car of at FMU last Saturday to get my new stainless cat back system installed and my front lip spoiler and AC Schnitzer rear lip spoiler painted and installed. As soon as I get it back home I will be bolting up my brand new AC Schnitzer wheels that I just got back from the powder coater done in a very unique graphite grey metallic. I will also be installing my new AFE intake when it gets home. I also scored a set of used(but mint) BMW accessory lighted kick plates for $100 shipped that I will be installing shortly.

It must be almost like getting a new car each year when you guys take it out of storage. My sneezing, itchy eyes, and the dusting of pollen on the car means spring is here in Northern California. So it must be on its way north--enjoy!

Its 61 F and sunny here in st. John's today. Its actually nicer than some of the weather we had last July. And in a perfect example of the changeable nature of weather in the North Atlantic, we are expecting 5 cm of snow tomorrow!!!

I drove my car the last two days. Weather has been gorgeous. Spirited driving got the adrenaline going so much I felt amped up enough to go another 8 night shifts - well, maybe not that many.

Snowed today. :-(

But the good news is I'm ready to buy my coilovers and I just bought the mediabridge package in the classified section.

Winter has it's pros and cons. Some of the pros are we get about 5 months to work on winter mods without having to worry too much about rushing to get them done. Another pro is that when spring finally comes we cherish it, that first spring drive after a long winter is awesome. Another pro is for those of us whose Z4s are not daily driver they stay super low mileage vehicles.

Cons For those of us whose Z4s are not daily drivers they stay super low mileage vehicles LOL

I'm jealous of you guys who live in the southwest. That being said, this was the first winter I remember where we didn't get any snow. Crossing my fingers that it warms up next week and stays that way!

What the heck is a cm?

My last convertible was a Miata, which I sold 9 years ago. Waited a long time to get another. It's convertible weather down here all year long. Can't believe I waited this long to get another.

Use centimeters (cms) rather than inches to measure things, and the ladies will be most impressed!

I typically spend the winter eyeballing possible replacements. Then I start driving it again and I can't convince myself I'd like anything else as much.

It seems to me they're getting more scarce in Chicago. It's been months since I've seen one and I seem to get more questions about it lately. At this point, I suspect a lot of owners have switched to something else - someone with an Interlagos Blue one at work switched to an E92 M3 the same color, for instance.

You drove all winter? I did too. How did you find it?

Ground clearance sucks, otherwise the car handles pretty good with winter tires on.

huh. 1800 in America, and someone you work with had one. I also have seen another one in my parking deck - crazy how that can happen given how rare they are.

LOL! Well, based on what folks I know in Toronto tell me, you haven't had much snow this year, meaning that there is probably not that much roadsalt around.

here in St. Johns, we have had a good amount os snow and the city is very zealous about salting the streets. in fact, even on a dry day with bare pavement, the roads are white with salt. If not for the salt and it's highly corrosive nature, I might do as you say. but I am might a-feared of rusting thebejeepers out of my car, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Patience young Skywalker, we'll all be on the road soon!
