Double-pull unlock on door handles - possible to change?

So I've had my M Coupe for about 7 or 8 months now and I've gotten used to all the odds and ends, but one thing I'd be interested in changing is how the doors unlock. The double-pull unlock is problematic not so much for me, but for passengers who aren't used to it. The final straw that makes me ask about it is I took my father somewhere the other day, and I thought he was going to rip the handle off trying to get out of the car.

I've done some googling and not much comes up, so have any of you tried this? Can it be coded out with a OBD2 tool? Any help would be appreciated.

^ Agreed, I cringe every time someone gets out the first time and I forgot to teach them the rules

I haven't run into this issue as I have the drive-away locks disabled.
I would just disable that and no more need to double pull.

I still attempt to depress the clutch whenever I drive an automatic car sometimes haha.

Can be coded. I had mine done at the dealer when the car was still under factory warranty.

For those familiar with NCS Expert you can disable auto-lock when you drive away with the following in your GM5 module:

Quote:
VERRIEGELN_AUT_AB_X_KM/H

Set this to nicht_aktiv to disable entirely. To clarify, when you disable this you will have to lock your doors manually afterwards.
Or you can disable it by specific key with the following lines:

Quote:
VERRIEGELN_XKM/H_SENDER_1
VERRIEGELN_XKM/H_SENDER_2
VERRIEGELN_XKM/H_SENDER_3
VERRIEGELN_XKM/H_SENDER_4

Set any of these to nicht_aktiv to disable the feature for that key.
As others have noted, there's no real way of addressing the double-pull issue without a workaround. Disabling the "drive-away lock" feature is just a band-aid solution to those who still want to lock their doors without the double-pull unlock.

Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure I saw this setting in Progman, as well, which may be a little easier to do than NCS Expert.

I think disabling the pull-away locking will work. I'll look into getting it coded, a couple good shops near me can probably take care of it.

Thanks for the help, all.

Disabling the pull-away locking will do the trick, but that opens you up to a car jacking.

Pressing the unlock button on the center console should work too.

Yes, it is on there. Toggle on/off.

I would rather have mine on for auto-lock and then I unlock the doors once I set the parking brake when I'm shutting down and getting ready to get out. Driving with unlocked doors to me is a hazard in it's own right.
