Not playing with repairs myself any more these last 2 months, work is getting done by a legit German specialty shop. They replaced my battery with a RELIABLE 32lbs version that has 650 cranking amps and programmed it, and replaced my starter.

Now they're replacing my Aeromotive fuel pump, and also replacing the leaking diff seal.

Funny how we end up going this route. After my supercharger install and various other mods, I ended up going to a shop for everything because I was so burned out. It's so convenient to be able to drop it off and have it fixed when you return. The hard part is finding a shop that you trust.

definitely..... for anything s/c related i take my car to the guys that built it, they are as trust worthy as i could find, excellent REP but who-ever i leave the thing with i get nervous! They are a good 90 miles from my address however but the mini trips worth it....

I take mine to a shop that does a lot of German cars and as the owner can shoot the shit and talk about what a pain it is to rebuild the vanos - I know he knows = he has been trying to get a buddies Audi R10 with twin turbos to work for weeks - had the install done where the average temperature is 20' warmer so ti is a bugger. I thought I had blown the sensor unit on my boost gauge cause the car was still working well but only showing 1 lb. Foiund out that all my screw clamps loosened and he joked about how weak I must have tightened them - replaced them all with lock nut and bolt, over the top, clamps.

Funny how you can do something and after you do it get it done know you can do it and never want to do it again - well not for a while . I built a cottage on summer - electrical, plumbing and carpentry - never again - painting - f that -

Did you direct wire the Aeromotive for the power it needs ? If not that may be why it was having issues . The stock fuel pumps wires are not good enough . I'm running lean up top now and believe this is the issue .

I did not when I did the original install, so I doubt it was done on the re-install. I am not having issues (yet) after the replacement pump was put in a week ago. I was getting a code for the fuel pump but no CEL on the original replacement pump.

I'd think a tune would be the resolution for being lean up top, unless you're getting ecu code or can somehow confirm that the stock wiring is insufficient

You could compare the amperage of the two if you're concerned about the wiring.

This isn't tune related , it very obvious fueling is inadequate up top . The car just started feeling like shit so it makes sense. No hard code yet . Just look at the AFR's up top . Ouch . It made 365 whp on a Mainline AWD dyno . Which is approx 430 whp on a dynojet .

Talked to Aeromotive , given our high pressure fuel system 72 psi stock , under boost the pump needs way more power than the stock wiring provides. With a 30 amp switch and its own wiring the pump only flows 220 lpm if it's getting all the power it needs at 80 + psi . Getting 1/2 the power it needs = problems . It needs a full 13.5 v . They def rec their optional wiring harness for our application . At this point I'm checking everything in the fuel system , but this is likely the problem . Hell I may go back to a stock pump to simplify things at this point lol .

well ill be damned!!!! would have bee good for one of the installers to spot this may have been an issue due to our fuel pressure being so high.....

As the VF cars are running the 570 kit on the stock pump is this really needed anyway??

I have this issue with the stock fuel pump when i have low fuel in the tank.
What is your fuel level in the tank when you are having a lean condition ?

I believe that the proper solution is to install a fuel catch can with the stock pump and use the aeromotive to supply the fuel to the fuel rail.
I'll post up pics in the coming month.

I believe VF570 kit provide a different fuel pressure regulator to drop the pressure to 2.5bar and tune it out.

Nope. VF570 uses stock pump and FPR.

Also, If you all are concerned with starvation, this might be of interest: http://www.radiumauto.com/Fuel-Surge...-E46-P305.aspx

Are you sure?
it says on the website that a bosch fuel pressure regulator is provided.
http://vf-engineering.com/other-bmw/z4m/

I have heard it from several VF owners, maybe the Z4M setup is different and doesn't include a different FPR.

Just to let you know that I just cancelled my aeromotive fuel pump order just now because of your feedback.

I will be using a new stock fuel pump on 7.5 psi setup.

In the future i will run a fuel catch using the stock fuel pump and a 044 external to feed the fuel rail. (this is a robust solution in my opinion), this single fuel pump solution for a sports car like this is just bad engineering.

Tika .... Gmd had this issue due to his aeromotive pump not being hard wired for adequate power supply...

If your experiencing fuel starvation , keep an eye on fuel level and don't run mad low at the track ... Simple solution....

Fuel starvation isn't something I read about a lot on these cars and their are a lot of track guys out their..... Gmd included.......

Personally if the VF setup is using stock components with no issue... Don't fix something that isn't broke I say.....

I have a stock fuel pump and fuel filter and FPR stored away in my house but my mechanic friend has been playing games inside my head. I have sorted out now, i don't need more than a stock fuel pump at 7.5 PSI.
