Smile Z4M - V1.0 Diffuser Finished V1.1 in progress(no update yet)

It took some time but I finally got my diffuser made.

The main reason for building this are.
- very few choices out there & the ones that are are very expensive. (2)
- the other less expensive choices are generic difusers not specific to our cars.
- didnt really like any of the designs out there

I had 2 basic goals for this project.
- wanted a bad azz look that looked like it was meant for this car.
- wanted aero functionality that didn't compromise the OE diffuser and rear diff vents.

So, I decided to work with the OE rear pan and modify it by adding vanes.

& this is what I ended up with .

The first three pix are the final fitment prior to finishing.
The vanes are made from 3/16" Lexan

All painted up and fitted in place (plasti-dip for now)

Back down on the ground.....

Love how it looks. I really want to photograph your car, wish we could setup a Kingston meet and organize a nice lunch so we could get more members together

Looks great! I'd love to see side profile pics as well! So to be clear, this rear diffuser are added lexan fins to the existing bumper? And the bottom half of the rear bumper is just plastidipped to match the scheme of the fins? Either way fantastic job!

Wow!

That is honestly the best looking diffuser for our cars I've seen!

Find a way to package that as a kit, and I'm sure you'd get a lot of takers, myself included.

btw, what lift are you using there?

This is really great. How about get a mold made of this thing, and shop it around to some composites places, you might be able to make some money from your design!?!?!! Also, the mold would help hide those brackets. Awesome work!

Thanks Lukasz.
We have to find a way to make that happen .....although I still have some interior work to finish up

Thanks, i appreciate the feedback.
I'm afraid that a GB isn't happening with this one.....
It is hugely labour intensive to get things to fit & look right.
I'm happy to help with any detail questions though....

The lift is a standard scissor lift made bu Atlas I believe.

A mold would be pretty difficult due to the variances of the shape of the OE pan.
The shape changes a little depending on how the bumper skin is spaced with the 4 back screws.
Each one of the fins is custom shaped to accommodate that & still get it to sit tight to the bumper cross bar.

Sounds like DIY thread time!! At least some detail pics explaining the process and hardware used!

Excellent job

That, I can do.
I was thinking about creating a template in a pdf that would give the basic shape & dimensions for the fins.
With the basic shape you guys can play with the design where it mates to the cross bar to suit your own preferences.

One nice thing about doing this in Lexan is that its tough & yet flexible enough for creating curves to follow the OE vents.

It's really not hard to do, it just takes a lot of time & patience to get the fitment right.

....wont happen overnight, but i'll work on it.

I'm also working on a second set of fins that are a little less radical.
Got some new shape ideas at the track yesterday.
We had tons of high end machinery out there, including a white Aventador

By far the best rear diffuser, imho. That would be great if you share the design in pdf form

I think making a template available would be a great idea. Something that someone could print out and use as a starting guide for cutting the material. As you said each car would be different, but having somewhere to start would be a huge help and a little dremel work should be all that is needed I imagine.

Great work! It really looks amazing. If possible, I would love to see some footage of this on a track to see if it flexes or anything. Maybe like a gopro suction cupped to the rear bumper looking down at the fins or something
