Wheel repair
So, after 2 years of driving my Z4 I finally stunned one of the rims is this sort of damage repairable by just sanding it out and respraying the clear coat, or will I need to paint the damaged area?
Any suggestions on technique would be welcome. |

idk about bmw but I know generally most german cars use the same color. Wurth makes a paint called German Wheel Silver and it should match pretty well.

No problem. Good luck with the repair. You also could look into a professional wheel repair like WheelFixIt or something like that

Looks like they have a guy that covers Madison. Also, you might check with some local dealers to see who they use.

I just had 2 rims repaired that had similar curb damage like yours.
The local company I used was called "rim guard extreme" but I am not sure they service your area, but there must be many companies doing this type of work as stated above. Each wheel was about $75 to bring back to new.

ANY suggestions on color? I'm leaning toward the Gunmetal, but the wife says flat black.

I realize damage is done, but on a preventive note: I have BF Goodrich Rivals on my car. Aside from really liking the tire for street & AX, it has a huge rim overhang (1/4" or so). I'm pretty careful, but this makes it almost impossible for any wheel to curb contact to occur.

Well, I had the wheels repaired and colored this weekend.
I used the AWRS local, which is Stazwell Wheel Repair. They were easy to deal with and the prices were $125/wheel for the repairs, $150/wheel for repair & color. BMW said $150-$200/wheel for just repair. Found out a lot of the local dealerships use them, and then markup the price to the customers. The curb rash is in the lower left corner next to the air valve. The driver front was the lightest of the damage. My wife says the Starbuck's drivethrus jumped out and scratched the passenger rims. BEFORE (lots of brake dust) AFTER

Try fixing it yourself! The tutorials I've seen make it look so easy. Plus, if you screw it up, it's still gonna be $75/wheel

When dealerships damage wheels as such they call local wheel repair shops as you did and have the wheels repaired. In general if you're able to get the name of the person/shop that does the dealership repair you'll get OEM quality and by going direct to them, you'll avoid the dealership markup. All's well that ends well! Hope your wife's Venti Soy Caramel Macchiato was worth it
