Stromung Exhaust Review

I've now had two weeks to throughly enjoy my new Stromung mufflers. They sound excellent and, in my opinion (because exhaust noise is very subjective), have a very similar tone to Diablos, very deep with some nice subtle pops and thumps when you let off the gas. They sound glorious when you want them to and are just loud enough at idle a cruising speed for you to know they're back there without being annoying. Previous reviews have claim anything from no drone to moderate drone. They're certainly not droneless but they are perfectly tolerable for daily driving and road trips (read as "fiance approved" ).

Now, as for Stromung, they were fantastic. Scott was VERY helpful and prompt. He called me back as soon as he received my inquiry and had a nice lengthy discussion with me about what I was looking for and what my previous experience had been. They just happened to have one set in stock (lucky me) and I had them in no time at all.

Install was a breeze and I had no issues getting the tips pretty well lined up (I could have done a slightly better job but they look fine) and pretty snug to the bumper as I've noticed some people have had an issue doing.

An excellent product from an excellent company.

Very nice!

Any drive-by videos or in-cabin?

I've been eyeing up these exhausts for awhile. I absolutely love them on the E36.

I'll try to remember to get some GoPro videos tomorrow while I'm out and about.

Parts: $895 from Stromung. Installation: free. It's really easy. Here's a good guide that I used the first time (thanks crfine88): http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...hlight=exhaust.

I just installed the Stromung exhaust on my car, and I noticed that the driver side tips stick out about 1/2 inch more than the passenger side tips. I tried to mitigate it a bit with the instructions from crfine88's post #17, but it's definitely still an issue.

Did you notice this at all with your setup?

Thanks. Yours looks good. I'll have to take mine apart again and see if there's any place I messed up...

You could always measure the tip length on each side. If they're comparable, it's likely there's something amiss in the install and it can probably be corrected pretty easily. If not, well, there's your answer, and it's going to be hard to get them even.

+1

I got lucky and got a used set off a forum member here, and my wife and I are also very satisified. These are much more civil than the Diablos at idle and low-ish RPMs, and I'd argue that they sound *better* above 4K. I almost couldn't hear the Diablos over 4K, but these have a very even, deep tone.

Low RPMs (2-3K) under load there is some minor drone, but nothing unruly, and the sound from outside is deep, clean, and you get the nice "burble" when you let off the gas.

This is what the Z4M should have sounded like from the factory!

Those Stromungs look and sounded really great

BTW...Thanks again for making a pit stop in OC this past weekend for a sound sampler. I love your interior trim pieces...very unique. I've only seen it on an X5 in the past, but never in a Z until your car

Nope. I've got Fabspeed headers and Stromung exhaust, the rest is stock.

My stock exhaust was even, but I did take all sections of the exhaust out the other weekend when I put the Stromung in since I was also replacing the heat shield, so there is a chance I didn't put something in quite right.

I love mine. I remember buying my roadster and going... This car sounds like a Camry, what gives. Ever since I installed the Stromungs, I smile when I drive my car. Not too loud, just enough. WOT sounds great and when decelerating I can't help but to blip the throttle a few times just for kicks. Some people say it drones, I don't experience that but It might just be me. The tips do protrude quite a bit more than the OEMs, but mine are just about even. Enjoy them, I know I am

Just installed my set of Stromungs yesterday. I've got only about 40 minutes of top down seat time with them. They sound very nice. Time will tell if I wish they were a touch quieter, my Miata before my //M was supercharged and somewhat loud. The last 16 mths with my stock exhaust were a nice change, but I really missed hearing my car. I put a good amount of time (and some $$) into upgrading my stereo and I hope that was not all for naught. Maybe I just should have hacked my iPod to mix in the soundtrack from someone else's Stromung's a-la an M5!

Exhaust sound is certainly subjective; but I think you will be happy. I've had mine for about a month and am very happy. At times I almost wish they were a little louder, but I certainly don't miss the drone. Combined with an aFe intake I recently got, the car finally sounds like I want it to.

I found that the exhaust gets louder as the engine warms up.

I forgot how much fun hearing your car is! Still, I'm see-sawing between finding a new-found love (haven't had a six cylinder car with a nice exhaust for 30 years now...260Z with an Ansa..still love that sound!) and a little sad that I'm not hearing my music as well.

But....I'm certainly having fun ("there, I can hit that gap, downshift WAAAAAAAAA!!!, teehee...that was cool!)

I know some of you like to roll with nice audio. My music are usually low volume so I can hear my exhaust. Just love the exhaust note during accel.

+1. I always wanted to get my sound system done because I think it's pretty disappointing. Now I'd much rather listen to the car so I keep it off anyway.
