Planning out and starting to pick up the parts for my somewhat major winter overhaul. Just need to unload my old BBS rsii's from my e46 to free up space.

Here is what's on the agenda,
-CDV
-Vibra technics street engine mounts
-Replacing stock engine mount bolts with mcmaster Carr 10.9 zinc, and getting nord lock washers and high quality anti seize
-Uuc black poly transmission mounts
-Still need to get all the Headers bolts and hardware
-Red line transmission fluid change
-oil change
-indoor car cover just to keep the dust off
-dkf hangers to reduce some drone in the rpi's
-And installing the headers.

-Then hopefully can get a ttfs Tune and add there Iat sensor

I think with these upgrades, I can begin to track the car more in the spring. Hoping for atleast 2-3 track days and maybe 5 autocross days next year!

Decided to take advantage of some Black Friday deals and forum members to pick up a few goodies for the car before I put it up on the lift for the work.
VIbra technic engine mounts
Rogue engineering Trans mounts
Car cover (Not pictured)
I had my headers ceramic coated
And most importantly a new key!

Haven't driven the car since the end of September so if the weather is nice tomorrow, I will take it out for a fun day, then wash, wax and winterize.

Still need to get my header hardware, a cdv, fuel stabilizer, and a few other maintenance related items.

So thinking ahead, which order would be best of the following,
Headers, engine mounts,
Trans mounts.
I would assume that while the engine mounts are out, I can get a lot more access to the headers and so that would be the best time. Any thoughts?

Bravo, bravo.

Regarding the header install, I honestly don't recall if the motor mounts were in the way, I don't recall them as being an issue.

If you haven't already, check out this header DIY, SUPER helpful -> http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWZ4MS...stallation.htm

Thanks! I have a lot more planned for 2015.

My father and I did a track day in early November where it was suppose to be his pantera and the M coupe. Well I ended up not being able to take the bimmer and I drove his car all day. Wow! is all I can say with that car on the track. However we did have a small engine fire! The distributor arced with the bulkhead and ignited, along with quite a bit of oil that had been blown out of the breathers after doing a few high rev passes down the long straight. I have go-pro footage of my reaction as I look in the rear view mirror and downshift at the end of the straight and see flames, and not from the exhaust. However i had an extinguisher so I put it out immediately and only smoked out the distributor.

But I'm ready to go back in early spring with both cars and have a little better time!

I got a great deal from Doug as well. And I received it only 3 days after purchase went through.

I am a little concerned about running catless headers, dkf section 1 and rpi's though. Even with the 300 cells. It's goingn to be really loud, maybe I should think about a set of the block off plates

Hey Chase have you put the Coupe away for the winter? I'll be back in MD next week and was thinking of going back to that Cars and Coffee if the weather is good. We'll have to get some photos of the cars together too.

The mods are looking pretty sweet too!

Time to update!

Took the car for one final drive to have somewhat of a before/after comparison to draw from. Put the car on the lift and got to work!

Rpi's off, section 1 and 2 off together.

First up was the CDV delete, followed by adding nordlocks to the sway bar End links and then the rogue trans mounts.

Took the OEM headers off, and then had access to the passenger side engine mount to install the vibra technic goodies. Added stronger 10.9 bolts and more nordlocks with some antisieze and torqued everything to spec. Moved onto the drivers side, little bit more of a challenge but got that all in.

Changed the oil and filter and drain plugs, and flushed the trans fluid, and filled. When I got under the car the fill screw was stripped already, luckily a pair of vice grips did the trick and I replaced both plugs.

Bolted up the dkf to the section 2 on the ground and all was left was the headers and reassembling the exhaust. Dunn dunn dunnnnnnn.

So the previous owner had a set of uninstalled supersprint replicas that I picked up for next to nothing (literally) and I figured what the hell, they worked on my e46, I will give them a shot. BAD IDEA. I installed longer e36 studs and the front header went on fine after indenting for the front control arm. The rear isn't even close to fitting. If the flanges that meet the studs and head are set on flat ground, cylinder 6 is flush, cylinder 5 is 1/4" off the ground and cylinder 4 is 1/2". So I marked it to where I thought it should be, and took a torch to heat it up( outside of the car obviously) and slowly bent it back into shape. After hours I stopped and tried to fit it on the studs again(first time around I could get it on cylinder 6's studs but it was torqued from fitting on cylinder 5 and 4. This time around it went on all of the studs, however further examination showed that the end that meets section 1, was now not parallel to the front header. And therefore would not work.

Long story short, as soon as I sell my old bbs wheels I will be getting a set of CPI headers!!!!

Moral of the story- M's don't like it when you cheap out on them no matter if the oil you are putting in them still costs $14 a liter!!

So this is how helios sits now, exhaust-less and now I am worried that I won't be able to eliminate my cel with the dkf.

Finished the car up over the weekend and started it for the first time in 7 weeks. What a glorious rumble. Everything seemed to check out okay, and I can say the car has transformed. Hopefully I can get a sound clip up pretty soon.

So to summarize my mini overhaul,
-added nordlocks to sway bar end links
-removed cdv
-installed vibra technique engine mounts
-installed upgraded 10.9 bolts and nordlocks
-installed rogue engineering transmission mounts
-flushed transmission fluid
-changed oil and filter
-performed annual service ie. cabin filter, check all hoses for cracks and leaks, check all fluids, and tore pressures, etc
-installed catless headers, 3x, aftermarket eBay first time, didn't fit, oem euro did however. I ceramic coated and then installed
-dkf custom section 1
-pcv valve

Unfortunately with the whopping 4 inches of snow on the ground I can't drive the car much, spring needs to come sooner!

Watched your video. Sounds awesome! How would you compare the sound to just the rpi?

Thanks! I haven't gotten to driven it too much to really tell. It still has the exotic raspiness of the rpi's, just exemplified 3x fold. The car is loud, I mean LOUD. Good thing I don't drive it too much, otherwise my neighbors would truly be angry.
