Voice Command

I have been searching google. Trying to figure out how to turn on voice command in the Z4. Every time I press the voice command button it says the system is off. How is it turned on?

Press the voice button, then say "help".

I thought voice only worked if you had the full Bluetooth module and not the BMW Assist

You have to say a command or I think it shuts off if you don't say anything. Do you have bluetooth phone paired? Try the attached manual:

Keep us updated on your progress.
I've played with it a little, but gave up quickly.
I'd like to know if anyone finds it not more trouble than it's worth.

The R/T button works fine for me using the phone.
I'd like to know if somebody can figure out how to use the nav with less knob spinning and pushing.

I use the voice commands to dial by saying a name. I don't really understand how that is more trouble than it's worth. Sometimes I might have to repeat the name. It's way less trouble than trying to use the nav to scroll through my contact list. I do have a coupe, so I have much less wind noise than a vert with the top down.

My voice command works fine for the telephone. But I am trying to get it to work with the navigation as well.

Oh, you never said you wanted to use it for nav. AFAIK, it doesn't work w/ the Z4 nav.

You have to swap out the BMW Assist TCU module (which is how most cars have bluetooth) for the Bluetooth ULF module to get voice commands to work with the nav, and if I remember right, there aren't that many.

Well I like the blue tooth so I will forget about the nav. It is just discouraging. I had also seen that you could control volume levels and tune in radio stations through the voice command.

I find the accuracy of voice recognition in a car way too low to even try to use it for advanced functions. It's as frustrating as telling my teenage son to o to sleep!
