Tire sizes with 19x8.5 +30, 19x10 +22 wheels.

Hi there. I've searched a bit, but can't find much on my particular situation. I'm currently running 19x8.5 +30, 19x10 +22 with 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 tires, along with H&R coilovers on my Z4M. I'd like to keep the front tires the same size, but would really like to get a 285 or maybe even a 295 in the rear. Do you think a 285 or 295 sized tire, say 285/30/19 would be an ok fit in the rear with a 19x10 +22 wheel? As it stands right now with my current setup, the car is pretty low and I haven't had a single rub ever.

Please keep in mind this car is for the street, and I'm not interested in how fast it can go around some orange cones, that I'm messing up the balance, or that I have less of a contact patch now or something. I just like the look of a fat rear tire, and appreciate any feedback you might have regarding if a wider tire will fit or not with no other modifications. Thanks a lot.

Yes. I'm not aware of anyone stuffing a 295 wide anything in the available space. Using rolled fenders and negative camber you might get 285, but wheel size and offset are tough.

Did you check the wheel fitment spreadsheet?

Thanks Finnegan. Yeah the more I look, I don't think anything over a 275 is really going to be possible. Just looking at my car, the sidewall is nearly at the fender so I doubt it's going to work. It's cool, just thought it might be nice to get some wider tires back there, but I'm sure not going to mess up what's a great setup right now.

Thanks again.

285 may be possible but like Finnegan says, it will take some careful setup to get it done. (looking at this myself in 18")

It also makes a HUGE difference on the tire brand used as to how rounded the shoulders are.
e.g. 265 Hankook RS3 vs ZII star specs
section width is identical @ 10.7
Tread width is VERY different. 9.4 vs 10.0

Ok, thanks as well inTgr8r! Moving up a single tire size then just isn't worth the hassle, no problem. Thanks for your help guys!

^ This. 265 or 285, that's the start of the fitment journey. They're not all the same in all dimensions. Tire Rack and others give you many measurements to look at and consider. Two good ones are noted above.

Sure, here are some. Not sure they give you the best indication, but they are my most recent pics. Threw one interior shot in because I love it, haha.

ZERO, never a single rub anywhere.

Currently running Continental DW (275/30/19). I was wondering about fitting 285 (same DWs to be safe) onto my 19x9.5 et 25 wheels as well (for better rolling diameter matched to the front 245/35/19) on the next set. This weekend, I had tried to place full or close to full compression on the rear and saw about 10mm space available to the fender. Inner clearance is a bit more at about 15mm. I'm on standard suspension with no fender roll.

Looking at specs on TireRack, I had noticed that going from 275 to 285 (same Continental DW), the section width gained 0.5", which may make me rub slightly at compression, but I was surprised to see that you'll actually lose 0.1" in tread width? This doesn't make sense and had me wondering how accurate are the measurements from TireRack in reality? If that's really the case, I'll be shooting myself in the foot for losing contact patch going to a wider tire?

I think this experiment may sway me to stay at 275 and leave some wiggle room for size width variations between tire manufacturers/models in the future.

This is Tire Rack's measurement method. While it provides consistency in method it also increases tread width measurements on more rounded shoulder tires because it can move the contact points further outboard on their tool if the shoulder starts with a more gradual radius before it makes the turn to the side wall. It's more valid comparing same size tires across brands than it is from tire size to tire size unfortunately.

How much are you lowered approximately on those H&R coilovers? I have the same front wheel spec as you and was curious how the 245/35 tire fits with your ride height. Also which brand tire are you running?
