After reading a bit more tonight, I think I may have localized the problem to my VANOS solenoid. If faulty, the solenoid can cause cold start stalling issues which is exactly my problem. The solenoid should have been replaced with the VANOS unit when the dealer did that, but it wouldn't surprise me if they somehow missed it. I will be bringing this up with the service manager when I speak with him next. I am also going to clean the MAF sensor to make sure its not something that simple causing this problem.

UPDATE: I unplugged my MAF sensor and proceeded to start the car... IT STARTED PERFECTLY! I'm going to buy some MAF sensor cleaner tomorrow and hopefully this solves this riddle! Wish me luck!

If it works, send your dealership a bill for time and labor.

elerner, I REALLY appreciate that you made that video! Thanks A LOT. I'm glad yours stumbles like that, it makes me now think that my ecu must just have to driven a bit to relearn its adaptations for the new VANOS. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to do that!

Ok, a show of hands: how many people's family members now ignore any screaming whatsoever comes from the garage?
