That's what "pops" the hood up when you pull the hood release.

I see. I though the hinge release popped the hood up anyways. Thanks

They tend to break so it's a good part number to have. They're called buffer stops with ejector. Check this thread for all the info you could want on them. I posted pictures of a broken one there.

Good to know. Do you remember how much they were? I might get 2 to keep in my parts drawer

they also serve to keep the hood taught when its shut. if these break you'll find that your hood will have a lot of give to the front of it when you push down on it.

That is great info...must be why I noticed the hood not fully taught when down.

A little obvious trick. I initial have these "buffer stop" installed/screwed all the way down. Depending how your hood sits, they can be screwed back up for minor adjustments.

best way to break them - slam the hood shut. So, it's usually not the car owner but the repair shops that are at fault for breaking these. If the hood is slammed shut just a few times, the springs in the guts of these will get shot out through the bottom. My car may still have one down in the nether regions of the front end, they were both broken when I bought the car.

I lower the hood to engage the main catch in the middle then just push each side down to latch the side catches and viola, no busted hood ejectors!

Another trick is you can get the high strength stops (meant for the hood) and install in the roadster trunk (which has low strength stops). This way when you open the trunk it actually pops open.

I didn't do this because I don't like the trunk flying open, but I know some people do so there you have it
