Hi !
The connector have a locking system. That's a white plastic lever ( if I remember well )... You should gently lift ( lift from the back of speedo ) the white part and the connector will be out of the speedometer. Hope that it will help you. And sorry for my poor english...!!! Hope this helps the next person who wants to do this. These are a few pictures showing what to remove and which clips hold the covers in place.
First you only really have to remove the two screws in the center, very small torx. These hold the right and left bezels in place. This is the clip on hte bottom that holds the cover in place. DO not pry on the ones on the top, these are part of the cover, you will however need to push them(gently) under the lip to get the cover out. Showing the front clips uder the trim bezel, lighting makes it look bad... This is the other clip along the side of the spedo, you need to release the bottom and also push it underneath the outter trim, again be gentle. This is what it looks like after it is free, right now the bezel will come out. I used soft Q-Tips and a good quality glass cleaner. Before cleaning (Yuck). After cleaning (Yummy) |

Another one which cleaned their speedo cover, looks great now. Scared myself briefly when plugging in the electrical connection and it started to whir and click....no problems once everything was fully installed. Thanks for the diy.

So any theories on how the "stains" get into a sealed instrument cluster?

Maybe some of the plastic gassing as it ages. Certainly looked well sealed.

I'm going to do mine in the spring.
I think it's a bigger problem on the ragtops though.

Mine didn't look like dust, more like a residue layer/film.
