Help me fix this leak!

Hello everyone, running into a few issues during my winter overhaul.

From untrustworthy torque wrenches(user error) to headers not fitting (warped?! Still accessing issues, this is my third time doing s54 headers so i figured I should know better by now) to a stripped transmission fluid fill plug(previous service at a "reputable shop" by po. Surprisingly was not too hard to remove).

RE transmission mounts are in and properly torqued, vibra technic engine mounts are in, and torqued, just need to replace airbox. CDV delete done, and oil change done.

Only things left are Headers, and install full exhaust, dkf included, and to fill the transmission. Then run final checks to see if I missed anything.

However I did spot this leak when I first put the car on the lift. It is is coming from the passenger side, and appears to be that screw that goes into the engine and sits relatively close up to where the transmission joins.

I have driven the car about 10 miles in the past 3 months, and it's been sub freezing temperatures, even in my garage in that time frame. The leak isn't dripping onto the floor, but enough fluid has come out to be visible on the transmission housing. My first guess was because of cold temps, screw shrinks a bit and tolerances increase, allowing a small amount of fluid to drip, especially with the car not being cycled(ie started and warmed up to allow things to expand again) in awhile.

So I believe it is either a valve cover gasket or block plug. But a block plug would leak coolant, and this certainly isn't coolant.

I figured I would wipe things down and keep an eye and see if I could pinpoint the source, just wondering if anyone has any insight.

Dude that's your CPV valve. Common leak on S54's. They seem to all leak a little bit. $45 part.

Just researched the pcv and that makes sense. Should do that before putting the headers on for good.

And yes! Best "tool" I have ever purchased. And it turns a 2 car garage into a 3 which is helpful when I am prohibited from expanding.

There's an upgrade to the standard O-Ring when your CPV starts leaking. http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogu.../S54CPVOR.html

Haha, the old CPV leak. I had that on my first Z4M, tech scared the crap out of me when he said it looked like a rear main seal leak. As others have said, a $45 part fixed the problem and my worries!!

There's a long thread on this very issue on the M3 forums:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=358941

There's no need to replace the entire valve. mpower22 on that forum sells upgraded o-rings for it. It'll be an easy job for you if you already have the headers removed.

That's what I was looking into, so no need to replace valve? Just replace with new upgraded o ring and that's it?

Sounds Good!!! I will get one of those while I am in the process of adding the AA headers I picked up. Good Work. I have the same suspicious leak without any in the Pan.

I will look for the part number and grab one at ECS tuning.

Lift at home... Yup i hate him too!

I strongly believe this is why my belly pan is all cracked: too much oil leak throughout the years cracked it, and I suspect it's the CPV. I'll be upgrading headers and S pipe soon so I'll order the upgraded O ring. Anyone knows which one is better: RE or mpower22?
