Rogue Diablo / Drone Fix
Finally put my Rogue Diablo's on.
Thanks again Andrew at iND for an unbelievable deal I couldn't say no to. Amazing sound with Euro headers. But the booming and drone was more than what I expected, I can see why other members are selling them. I loved the loudness and deep rumble but not the drone between 2-3K rpm. But the drone was not coming from outside the vehicle only inside. I figured there must be a way to fix this. Then I researched the problem and found a solution that fixed 95% of the problem and cost me nothing. No I didn't think of this myself, found the idea HERE Basically, I had the exhaust hangers tightened too tight. The 4 nuts that clamp the rubber hangers to the chassis on each muffler were too tight and squashed the rubber too much so it could not properly isolate the vibrations from the vehicle and thus the drone was caused. Then the next morning I loosened the 4 nuts on each side and did them up with a 12" extension just hand tight (without ratchet) if you think the nuts will come off you can Loctite them but I used self locking nuts that I had spare so same thing. Then went for a drive and the drone was practically all gone. You won't believe it till you try it. Will work with all exhausts so try it if you have a problem like I did. Not sure if the RPI guys are more concerned with the volume or the drone but either way I love my Diablo's now. The massive weight saving after carrying them around the back of the house to the storage shed was enough to convince me this was a worthy mod just for the weight saving. OEM cans are very HEAVY. From testing it easily feels more powerful and faster revving, awesome quality product too.

How do you find the exhaust now that you've loosened the hangers? Is there any way you can post a short clip of the sound inside the cabin? I'm thinking about picking up a par of diablos with the x-pipe but i'm concerned about the drone. Cheers

I love the diablo's now.
Drone is very hard to capture correctly on video. I watched so many YT videos before purchase but it was not even similar to what it really is in person. What exhaust are you running now?

I'm just running stock right now. Had the car for just over 2 years now and the exhaust is one thing I think needs a little improvement on. I've also been in tough with Andrew from IND and just waiting to hear a quote for the cans ans xpipe. Unfortunately up here and Canada ill be waiting another 5 months before I can even hear them.

I've been planning on dynomatting the entire rear end of the vehicle. Honestly I'm not so worried about weight savings and I've heard the difference on too many cars. Fortunately the euro market does a better job (better materials) than others to deaden sound throughout a vehicle, but that extra layer still makes a solid difference especially in looser interior applications.
I found this for future reference if anyone wants to go all out in the trunk of a coupe. Code:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240959 Going to install DKF hangars soon and then maybe in January I'll apply the Dynomat to the entire rear of the car. |

if loosening the nut helps, I would think that adding an isolator between the nut & bracket would also be beneficial.

Did it this weekend with RPI Exhaust. Definitely cuts down on the drone, but does not eliminate it. I had a lot of vibration while cruising and that is completely gone. Thanks for posting!!! Well worth the experiment.

Look 2 posts up.
I'll add my findings with RPIs but that won't be until the car comes out of hibernation

I was looking to see if anyone else had tried it. Also wondering how well the bolts are staying in place with only being hand tight. I might try this next weekend and want to know if I should loctite them.
