Catalytic Converter Options
Just today I got thrown a code (29F5) for my Catalytic Converter Conversion 2. According to the shop it's about to go and I'll be stuck with the SES light for good. I have an RE Mid Pipe and RPI cans, but still have the stock cans but not the stock x pipe.
I'm trying to figure out what header options there are and what I can do without this particular set of cats, or if it's just worth replacing them if the dealer won't do it. Obviously this is the best course of action as it means spending no money out of my pocket (8 year 80,000 if I'm eligible). However, if it all goes south, what are the options out there? I tried looking up some threads, didn't find anything that really pertained to this directly. I know there are ton of exhaust builds, but I'm pretty sure everyone keeps this particular set of cats as it's not the ones on the headers, but the ones on the midpipe (if I have that right). |

why not try and source a set of the DKF section one, they are about to be garnished with 300 CELL metallic race CATs, they currently have the 100 CELL race cats.

If you need OEM headers, let me know. I have a set ready to ship. I'm about to take them to a cat recycler for scrap.
The rest of your exhaust shouldn't matter when it comes to throwing a catalytic converter code, because there are no O2 sensors past the headers.

If I'm replacing I won't be doing OEM I don't think. I've already got a decent amount of aftermarket piping might as well finish it off. That's what I thought on the O2 Sensor but it threw me for a loop when it said it was the "second" one. I figured there might be something on the 08 that monitors that as well or another way to find the back pressure. For now the car still spits up black from the exhaust but the SES light is off. |
